What kids do here.

I have learned that teens and young adults in Livingston County spend most of their time drinking and using illicit drugs to occupy their time. The kids that are least suspected also partake in use of drugs that their parents believe to be taboo and permanently disabling. Codeine, Oxycontin, and Heroin are among the drugs that the children, some as young as 15, tend to use. Over 40% of the jail population is younger than 25 years of age and no one seems to have an answer for the solution. The worst thing is that the parents of these children only want to be anonymous and spend sometimes tens of thousands of dollars in an attempt to keep the child from being incarcerated. In most cases, the child lands in rehab and gets out to start the cycle of robbing, stealing, and using all over again. When will enough be enough? Possession of heroin has never been a misdemeanor but the punishment seems to be more lenient than a MIP charge for being under 21 in possession of alcohol. No one wants his or her child in jail but the punishment needs to fit the crime. People aren't getting caught with over 1 gram without being a regular user or a dope dealer. If you get caught with a joint of refer twice it's not going to get you rehab so why does heroin in Livingston County?
