It appears to me that the Brighton powers that be, grow some kahonies, get court orders to demolish any vacant, downtown eyesores, because of neglect and a owner who want's to get on local new's at 6pm. Then charge him for all labor. Bonner better realize that a house unoccupied for 37 years might be neglect, stupidity and false pride on his part. No political excuses here please! Let's move on, this could be a bigger story than Mill Pond penis statue man!!!!!

Those houses have been unoccupied for decades because the city wanted to raze them decades ago for quaint and charming asphalt parking lots. The city shut off the water to those houses thirty-odd years ago, knowing that this would make them uninhabitable. Their plan was that they would wear down the owners' determination to keep the houses. They thought wrong, costing the people of Brighton hundreds of thousands of dollars. Yes, hundreds of thousands of YOUR dollars, subsidizing the interests of business at YOUR EXPENSE. The city has spent a fortune on bullying a fellow private landowner and you are paying for it. Notice that the city never tried to bully a business owner into demolishing their property.

11.4.13 I have just driven by two of the homes and they look the same a they did when these posts above were written. How do I know? Because I have lived in Brighton all my life (43yrs) and lived 2 blocks away from the houses on East Street and North street when I was a kid. The houses have not had anybody living in them Since the late 70's. When was the last time the folks that posted from Walled Lake and Farmington drove by them? The name calling and lack of respect for people just shows your ignorance.

I drove by them weekly. You appear to have been totally uninformed as to why those homes were vacant. The backroom decison-making of a little gang of downtown business owners prevented ... let me say that word in all caps, so you don't miss it ... PREVENTED the Bonners from renting those homes by shutting of the water, way back in the 1970s. The houses at that time were not in bad condition, but you were probably in diapers then and cannot actually remember that area, 40+ years ago. Or, perhaps, you were in Arkansas, as your ISP is reporting. In any case, Brighton has spent HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS to procure parking for the backroom decision makers who own increasingly irrelevant bricks and mortar retail properties. So, raise your right arm with clenched fist and rejoice in victory and celebrate the city's very expensive ordinance that can tell YOU that YOUR home isn't worth fixing IF the downtown people want it for themselves.

Such hateful words from people who don't know the full story. How would you feel if the city threatened to knock down a house that you and your father worked on and you've tried to keep in the family for several decades just so they could build a parking lot?
