Well, I will say this -- it is true there's nothing quite like White Castle there on Okinawa. But there's a lot of other food to enjoy!!

Jokes aside, I am saddened to read on another site that the SSgt did NOT truly explain his reasons for extending his leave. That may come back to bite him in the rear when he returns to that base, but I hope everything goes well for him. Kudos to his commander for approving the leave extension - that is truly a rare occasion in itself!

So he requested an extension of his leave for 'family reasons' but really wanted a White Castle??(info via link provided by Oki Visitor)

Aarrrrrrrrrgh. Much less heartwarming story when all the facts are told.

I have more of a problem when extensions are denied to our servicemen. Whatever the true story is, Bravo to his Commanders!

From personal experience, there are many people that have to fight to even use the leave they have earned at that base. To see an extension of leave while ON leave -- I have only heard of that on very rare occasions. For whatever reason, I am happy they approved the extension.

Have a great day everyone!

Huh, I thought we had two wars going on. I guess they are not very serious wars. And here I though all of America should be worried about them. After reading this story, I see I was wrong. If we can extend the leave of such a valuable soldier so that he can get a tiny little hamburger, I guess we have no more problems in either of the two wars we are fighting. What a loser this airman shows himself to be. Screw all of you who think this is just fine and dandy. Other soldiers are being maimed and killed while he is enjoying that hamburger on his extended leave. Oh well, I guess it is just the Air Force and not one of the real branches of service, so why not. Now I hear that Sonic is having a sale on milk shakes. I hope all the soldiers who like their milk shakes get granted leave, and then get them extended, so that they can reap the benefits of that sale.

Sorry Greenman, I gotta take you to task on this. The extended assignments and deployments of the people assigned overseas are part of the reason that they DESERVE the leave. And second of all, if one were to do a little bit of studying to see what C-130 squadrons were assigned to the base this person was at, well... let's just say there's a reason his family stayed in the states. You want to sign up and take their place?...No?

As an AF vet myself, I've heard the bashing, but it usually comes in good humor. However, I see no proof that you are in the same case. Guess you haven't heard of "Blue-to-Green" or the fact that many airmen have been backfilling the other services as needed. I invite you to inform yourself on FACTS before you spout off. I'd give a 75% or greater possibility I can guess your political standing too -- and it's a shame that the probability is so accurate lately. Why? Because if it is it proven true, then the general public has gone from being informed, educated and self-thinking individuals into sheep that are led by the shepherd and do not know any better.

I look forward to your thoughts in the hope that it will disprove my theory. Thank you for your time.
