Murder suspect could face death penalty if convicted

Louis Joseph "Joey" Scates The trial of a Lincoln County man accused of killing his father-in-law in 2006 is under way and court officials say the suspect may face the death penalty.

Why did it take over 3 years for this fellow to be tried? Everyone knows that he shot and killed his father-in-law in broad daylight. Edward's daughter drove him down there with the gun and he shot Edward in his own yard. The only disagreement between Scates and Waters was the fact that Scates would not work to support his wife and kids.(Edward's daughter and grandchildren) The line "allegedly shot him seven times" just tears me up. All this ALLEGEDLY in news stories is just ridiculous.

i can not believe he waited until all the jury was picked to plead quilty. guess he got scared some of them believed in the death sentence. and it is so wrong tax payers had to waste their money to keep him in jail for 3 yrs. it is not like lincolnton is backed up on murder trials. i worked with his wife. she was so happy when they got married and when she was pregant with their kids. and for him to do this to her and the kids he needed to be shot on the spot. please keep her and her family in your prayers.
