I agree that there are too many of these children left to raise themselves. They gather together in packs/gangs so they can 'fit' and they truly believe that no one really cares about them, whether because of the attitude towards school officials of the parents of these kids, or learning the behavior from other peers. They are generally on the bottom of the scholastic and/or economic scale. I've had kids tell me that you can get 'beat up' just for 'rolling your eyes' at someone. These kinds of behaviors start in Middle School and are more prevalent than the public could ever believe, and the kids don't tell!

The problem w/ our kids is that they are pampered, instead of punished and they know they won't be charged and they will tell you.. we'll just go to alterative school..a joke!!!
Poverty does not excuse crime!!!
Though as sad as it is... it's not an excuse! So if she's not tried as an adult, its just saying kids can attempt to kill..they're excused. And the next time what then..????????

Last week these same two kids fought in the commons area over a boy. My daughter was sitting on the floor next to the wall with her class when the fight broke out. They all tried to move out of the way while the fists were flying along with chunks of hair. My daughter moved her head out of the way, Thank God just in time, to avoid getting cold-cocked herself. She was very upset and shocked to see this and have it happen so close to her. They suspended them for three days. The day they came back to school they started it back up again at lunch in the commons area. This time at least my daughter was far enough away to only get blood on her shoes. Of course I'm totally horrified. My kid is there to get an advanced education in science not violence. I'm upset.

This doesn't shock me that it happened but what does shock me is these girls picked up where they left off before the suspension. In cases like this, I think the parents should be charged. I think that would nip this in the bud after a few parents went to the slammer.

I thought White Knoll was an upscale school?? This is sad news.

White Knoll was a very good school until they have become overrunned by so many more students. The school has just become too big for its breeches. There are too many of these kids that don't have the proper supervision and moral upbringing from home. If more parents spent quality time with their kids, instead of pleasing their own selfish wants, then they would have a better chance. The kids were not asked to be brought into this world. The parents should take care of their responsibility when they decided to have them. That means be a parent until they are 18.

You can punish the parents if you want, but under the law, a child as young as 8 years of age is expected to know right from wrong. When these girls first fought, before suspension, they knew what they did was against the rules, and somewhere along the way, I feel certain that they were told that fighting does not solve problems. After returning from suspension, one of the girls brings back a razor with her mond set on retaliation. She had several days to consider her actions, and even then, brings a weapon with which to try to kill someone with. I say, unless she is retarded, try her as an adult. Maybe fine her parents too!

There is a minimum age, I learned in Criminal Justice, that one can be held responsible for their actions. I forget the exact age, but it was in the 7-10 years bracket. As I suggested - look it up and prove me wrong.

I am not making an excuse for what these hoodlums did in any way. I was just stating that schools are too big to manage them safely anymore. Parents should take responsibility on how they are raised so they know whats right or wrong, to their best ability. If a parent doesn't teach and show them then how are they to know better? We all see what is on TV, in the movies and hear it in the lyrics of the music. Violence has been glorified. It's scarry to see how this country is going. These kids are our future?

you're right about schools are too big. a teacher shouldn have to control 20 - 30 students. and parents are letting the schools raise their kids for them. parents need to be proactive in the kids lives.p eople think that raising a kid is just a matter of keepin them alive.

YOU CAN FEEL SAFE IF YOUR CHILD ATTENDS SCHOOL WITH MY CHILD BUT IS MY CHILD SAFE ATTENDING SCHOOL WITH YOURS!
Shame on you all who say that WKHS is a bad school!
Our daughter attends WKHS, and she is very proud of her School.
We are very proud Parents to have our child attend WKHS. We participate in school functions. We attend High School Football games, we read our childrens interims and report cards, we punish if that grade falls below a B average and most of all we know where our child is at all times and who her friends are.
The issue is not the School but the children and the parents that are teaching these violent behaviors.
The parent is not teaching the children right from wrong. This is not only the case of children at WKHS but the children that attend High School with your children.
The child did not know how to control her anger and lashed out not once but twice. The parent of the child should have seen signs that she was out to get even with the other girl. I agree that this girl should be treated as an adult. She should not be allowed to attend another High School. Let her parents home school her!
Sincerely,
WhiteKnoll Parent

1st off - an A at WKHS is probably a D at other other schools (DFHS, LHS, etc.). Secondly, this girl should not be home schooled - she should be in prison! And are you saying that this high school student does not already know that slashing another human with a razor is wrong????? Maybe White Knoll needs to add this little rule to their orientation for 9th graders. Along with "Murder is a no-no".

Uhh Dutch Fork is not what it once was, thanks to the projects moving in. I agree with some of what you all say. These freaking out of control kids are a product of non-existant parenting. Not enough spankings. Note I say spankings, not beatings. I think that parents of troublemaking kids should be charged with negligence, the same as if they were abusing them, because they are, by not disciplining them. Worst part is that they are abusing other peoples kids as well, by creating these monsters that encroach on others right to an effing education. But the blame should defintely be shared. I think they should bring back beatings by administrators in schools, maybe these punk effers would have a little more respect for authority if the authorities could do something that would actually hurt them. Suspension...give me a break, thats a vacation in itself. Dumb white parents messed that up for us with their whole time-out, no one touch my kid, bullshit parenting. And yes, I'm white. But i'm an equal opportunity hater. The only race that seems to have any sense are asians...apparently.

I am actually a student that goes to White Knoll and I think that it really sucks that this happened because now they are planning on putting metal dectetors inside our school so anytime any weapon is brought into the school the metal dectectors will go off. Anyways the girl who got arrested for cutting the other girl up i think she's following in her daddy's footsteps because hes already in jail for stabbing somebody because that's what the girl told her friends. Personally i am glad that the cop is charging the girl as an adult for what she had done because cutting the girl with that razor was a big no no. Eventually what i don't get is why couldn't they have finished it on their 3 days of suspension? But anyways for all people that go to White Knoll, yall know that White Knoll High is a great school and we shouldn't let a little undisciplined kids ruin that. White Knoll is one of the finest and most largest high school's in South Carolina, and we should be grateful that we are raised and cared for in such a great environment. But let this be a lesson to all the kids out there; fighting never solves anything. That's already been 20 days and some people are still recovering from the shock but White Knoll High is doing better now and I hope things like this can be put to a stop in the future, PEACE.

Well said Kevin. A good life lesson was taught at the expense of the victim. Violence begets violence! And all you at White Knoll who brag about the size of your school - bigger is not always better. The smaller private school almost always academically out-perform you!

If you say to punish the parents, I say punish the mothers. In the 60's, they just had to be equal, and now they MUST work. One income doesn't make it in most families. Since most mothers are employed, who is supposed to spend time with our children? This isn't an isolated case, it's a change in culture. It will just get worse until our economy reverts back to one income families. Yeah, right! Like the economy would revert and let us raise our own children!!!
