At the commissioners meeting yesterday, someone expressed concern that reduced funding from the state could affect CAP, or the Community Action Partnership here in Lebanon. I pointed out one very important benefit from CAP which could have a significant impact in our area if this benefit were withdrawn or modified.

It is very difficult, if not impossible, for Medical Assistance recipients to be accepted as new patients by Lebanon County physicians. Therefore they have to go to Lancaster for their medical appointments.

Within Lebanon county, Medical Assistance patients take the para-transit van, which requires 24-hour notice for transportation requests. Also, para-transit van transportation is available from 8 am to approximately 3 pm only.

CAP arranges for out-of-county transportation. The request time is longer for them.

I think we can all agree that preventive medical care and regular visits to physicians both go a long way in avoiding lengthy, expensive hospitalizations.

Therefore, withdrawing or curtailing this one benefit alone -- i.e., transportation to out-of-county medical appointments -- will ultimately cost more in terms of long, costly hospitalizations for some patients.

P.S. Lest anyone thinks that the only people who need Medical Assistance coverage are a bunch of lazy bums who don't want to work and are intentionally ripping off the system, I beg to differ with you on that one.

And another thing ... Someone also voiced concern at the commissioners meeting about possible cutbacks to the Cedar Haven budget.

I made the comment that as the boomers age, there will be MORE need for nursing home services, not less. What I didn't mention are those younger people who end up in nursing homes like Cedar Haven because of chronic conditions such as MS.

Just two important things to think about when cutting Human Services expenditures.

How about we have Pa. State Senator Mike Folmer find and eliminate the $1 billion dollars of fraud and abuse in our states welfare system.
This is an outrage to very taxpayer.

October 2010 Mike Folmer appeared on WGAL news an told everyone that our states welfare system was corrupted with $1 billion dollars of waste fraud and abuse. Folmer also said he would never vote to use anymore taxpayer money to fund welfare until this waste fraud was rectified.

Somehow between Oct. 2010 and Governor Tom Corbetts budget speech Folmer must have found a billion dollars of waste fraud and abuse in states welfare and he forgot to tell us. Gov. Corbett's budget just allocated an additional $1 billion dollars towards this states welfare systems, and Mike Folmer is suddenly pleased with a budget that stiil includes the $1 billion in waste fraud and abuse under the Rendell Administration according to Folmer's own words.

The taxpayers cannot allow State Senator Mike Folmer to vote for another billion dollars of waste fraud and abuse towards welfare before he cleans up the last billion dollars of waste fraud and abuse that he himself told us existed in October of 2010.
The Tea Party has to step up force State Senator Mike Folmer to stop this wasteful spending and hypocrisy that he himself brought to light in 2010.
Folmer has to vote against all this welfare fraud and abuse or cast himslef as a Tea Party fraud.

Sen. Mike Folmer, R-Lebanon County, voted no. He said it spends $700 million more than he would have liked, injects too much pain on taxpayers and doesn’t take into account concerns that Auditor General Jack Wagner raised about wasteful spending within Department of Public Welfare programs

Here was a golden opportunity for Litz, a democrat to tear into Stohler and Carpenter as Republicans, but she really didn't do it. To any democrat in Lebanon County, you gotta vote her out in the primary.

I am personally not a fan of Stohler or Carpenter, but only a fool would waste their time blaming a person on the merits of their party affiliation.

The people only people to blame for this budget is Republican Gov. Tom Corbett and any and all the state lawmakers that vote for it in Harrisburg.

You introduce it, you vote for it, you own it next election day.

Gov. Corbett acts more like spoiled rotten little baby that got everything handed to him on a silver spoon all his life.

Guess what Corbett's response was to Penn State President after announcing they would have to close schools or raise tuitions to make up for the 50% funding cut putforth in Corbett's budget.

Corbett said he was diasppointed with the criticism and though he sits on the board of trustee's of Penn State he would not be attending their next meeting in NY.

If anyone questions Gov. Corbett's decision making he won't talk to them anymore. Gov. Corbett needs to get a set and grow up. Gov. Corbett is acting more like a five year old dictator then an elected political leader in a Democracy.
