For years the residents of Ironton has skated along the edges of change. We all want the modernization and the things that other cities has, but we are reluctant to committ to pay for it. Yes it's another fee but the end game is that maybe the city can afford to give incentives for businesses to locate here once the city become solvent. Except change as a good thing not as a problem.
With a Million dollars a yr in new fees the city has a great chance to move forward.
Now it is our responciblity as citizans to make certain the the city leaders spends these assests for the betterment of the whole not the privlaged.
In other words go to the city meetings and give your input.

It's only 6 bucks a month more than what you're paying now and it's temporary. IMO, it's not that bad.

"been there done that" says it is only temporary.
I don't understand where you are getting that, however many years ago the first fee was initiated it was only going to be temporary....

Someone should check into the legality of these fees. It is definitly taxation without representation. These fees should be voted on as an operating levy, police levy, fire levy, or streetlight levy. This is how the floodwall is maintained,it is voted on. Too many times the public has voted these fees down so Council just sticks extra fees on the water bill and goes on its merry way. That way it is supposed to be spent on only the purpose stated, otherwise the powers that be just spend it where they want! Maybe the voters should take action .

I would guess that a petition would need to be filed to get the fees put on the ballot.

why are rules and regulations put in place like having so many readings before passing a new law or ordinance so the public can have a say so then they just throw them out and vote them in at one meeting? sounds like they don't care what the citizens have to say they're going to do what they want.

I have went to several meeting and most times there is only a few there, I went once and no one was there except for the city leaders.

To be able to know what is being considered at the meeting you must turn off the TV and get in the car and give them a listen. After the water meter debacle I decided to do just that.
