Georgia needs a better way of alerting people of bad weather, especially at night whilst people are asleep.

Grab a weather radio. They are programmable with your county code. The National Weather Server sends the alerts, so you dont have to wait for Georgia to get around to it.

Another County that was affected by the recent storm 4/11/08 was Rockdale county in Conyers GA. Are there any assistance programs in regards to tree removals due to them being struck by lighting?

I agree to get a weather radio. I purchased it from Kroger. It woke me up at 3:30 a.m. this morning. My suggestion to you is to only program 1 county code so that you know to cover for safety.

The moto is always prepared. The Midland weather alert radio is the best purchase we ever made. We set it for Fulton and DeKalb (we are in DeKalb) so we will have good forewaring. It sounded like a champ last night so we were ready to head to the basement as needed. It is a very small investment for the benefits it provides.

These weather radios can save lives if they are used. Don't cut them off at night because this is the real danger time with most people in bed.

Weather Radio! Weather Radio! Weather Radio! Weather Radio!

How many times do we have to make this point after severe weather makes headlines in our state? A weather radio alerts you 24/7/365 if you do your part. That means programming (very simple) the thing, plugging it in, and inserting batteries for backup in the event of power failures.

Agree! I had mine on last night, the siren went off for a tornado warning in my county, and off we headed to the basement!

The few bucks they cost are well worth it!

The media seems to have overlooked the extreme damage in Macon. I was in Macon visiting my Mother and every home in and around her neighborhood was damaged. There are no trees left at all. Every home had at least one tree on top of it. A tree came through the bedroom where I had been sleeping only a few minutes before. Thank God for Macons very loud sirens. The Macon damage and tornado was so much worse than Ellenwood. I find it odd there was no mention of Macon on any of the news channels.

when the storms hit Haralson County we did not even get a severe thunderstorm warning over the radio. We had received the tornado watch alert but the weather service was asleep at the wheel on this one

I have my county as well as all of the surrounding counties programmed into mine. I want as much notice as possible if a tornado is headed my way. I would rather lose 20 minutes of sleep and know the storm is moving away from me than get a 5 minutes head's up that I need to take cover NOW!

Can someone please tell me MORE about these weather radios?!!!! I never even heard of them until reading these post.

Someone mentioned about leaving it on at night and keeping batterries in it. I beleive that this is something I should have and may save my life. I'm from up north (Chicago) and never really had to worry aobut all the tornadoes, twisters whatever..you know. Thanks for the information.

I believe Midland Weather Radios are still available at Kroger.

Programming the unit is very easy...just follow the enclosed directions.

Once the radio is operable, an alarm will go off when the National Weather Service (NWS) issues a weather warning for your area. Following the alarm, a message from the NWS will provide details in terms of the warning.

Here's a link to the Midland web site and the radio sold at Kroger:

http://www.midlandradio.com/comersus/store/co...

As I recall, the radios cost no more than $30 last year at Kroger...much cheaper than advertised on the Midland web site.

This tornado happened less that one mile from my home. Mr. Clements who died, & his wife who is fighing for her life, are good, hardworking people, and both come from good families. I wish they could personally kick the living shit out of you. You are scum. Keep in mind, that things like that( your comment) have a way of comming back to you. Hope you remember that when someone you loves dies in a most unfortunate way.
