it seems like this Sheriff we have will do anything for a photo op. It is all about getting re-elected. Ok a child support round up. Not a bad idea, How many were caught? How many are now in Jail? How many were released? Seems like our local paper seemed to omit those facts.
Let me state that anyone who doesnot pay child support is low. However, I have to wonder why is this sheriff using every opprotunity to get his name in the media or is he creating these opprotunities to get his name in the media?
Instead or our local Paper Publishing Headlines like: "Sheriff's Department Bust Meth Labs" then "Sheriff's Department has Child Support Roundup" What about stating the NUMBER of CONVICTIONS resulting from the ARRESTS. If the CONVICTION rate is not equal to or close to the ARREST Rate then these High Profile Media Opprotunities are USELESS.
These Photo Ops are used to convince the Uninformed and Uneducated that our Sheriff's office is Doing something about Crime. When all it is, is Smoke and Mirrors.
Our sheriff is focusing on the BOTTOM Feeders of the Food Chain of Crime. Let me know when he busts the major crime in the area.

I agree with what has been said! Not paying child support is not a good thing, but there are so many things out there that are much worse and the people commiting those crimes walk the streets...yet they want to man- handle the ones that are not paying child support like they are some kind of dangerous animals..pulling guns out and slamming them into the ground like they have commited murder or something. Come on get real, they need to focus on the serious crimes!!! I think the men and women of the law let their badges go to their heads! Alot of them seem to forget that we are ALL human and make mistakes...

and further more, how much of the money paid in child support actually gets used for the kids benefit? In most cases the money goes to support peoples drug habits.

According to the Paper the Sheriff's office had 39 Bench warrants to serve for nonpayment of Child Support, of the 39 only 9 were arressted. This means they couldnot find 30. I am sorry but this is a terrible waste of resources. The Sheriff's Department should have had enough information when they had warrants in hand to make a larger number of arrests. This clearly shows they didnot have that information and were going out for Headlines.
If they had 39 warrants and had they done proper information gathering they should have had at least 25 arrests. 9 arrests out of 39 warrants is a terrible ratio. Think about the manpower hours, gasoline for the cruisers and that this was a multi agency operation. With the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, the London Police Department and the Kentucky State Police participating in this operation their should have been a much larger arrest rate. With only 9 arrests this also means the probablity of a LOW conviction rate.
Only one word for this operation BAD.
Those not caught will continue not to pay the money their children are owed.

one meth lab was found, that was were they had them on the ground, when you go to serve a warrant you do it the same way take no changes and then the cops gets to go home for supper, so dont do the crime, if you cant do the time.non support is a crime, sorry bust them just like a meth lab and just how would you do it?

Not like COPS on TV. thats what they seem to be acting like. If you have 39 warrants why didnt the State Police Run all 39 names through that multi million dollar computer system they have? Why werent the names of the warrants cross referenced against Automobile Registration? instead of trying to nab 39 in one day that should have been the goal for a week.
You dont have to kick in doors for someone who owes child support. If they found a meth lab, which seems to be the norm these days, was the force used necessary for the situation? I dont think so.
I saw the sheriff's deputy on the news with his knee on the mans neck. Had he snapped that mans neck and killed him or caused permante injury the Sheriff's Department would be looking at another wrongful death law suit.
The bottom line is the RAIDS are for News Headlines!

Well I had a "friend" that was treated like he was some kind of murderer or something when they arrested him... You know and what makes me so upset is the fact that the lady he pays child support to uses it to buy her pain pills and such. So therefore he works and pays to keep up a DEADBEAT MOMS PILL HABIT UP.He had guns pulled on him and everything just over child support. Now thats a little much dont you think?Which was being garnished weekly from his employment. And the only reason it was behind is he was out of work for a bit. I think they should make the moms show receipts for everything they purchase with there child support debit card.

Unfortunately this is not required by law. however, if a child is showing up at school with tattered clothes, no money for lunch then is when they act. These "Child Support Raids" are over the top. I believe this was created for publicity and has very little if anything in getting child support payments for these children. Just look at the number of arrests. 9, Nine out of thirty nine. that is terrible. This was simply a Publicity Stunt. nothing more

I agree totally with you. They wouldnt had Mountain news getting it all if it wasnt. The parents paying and trying to do right by having it garnished from there checks shouldnt be included in there little"round up"I dont think because they are atleast making an effort.

Well if you had listing to the news alot of the people not caught were calling wanting to pay there childsupport. Please dont talk trash about our police force they are underpaid for the jobs they do. I bet you don't even have a job and owe child support yourself. Most working law abiding citizens support our sheriffs department.

Guys this is simply all about getting Headlines in the News. For the Next Election. That is all this is about. Our local paper fails to put actual statistics in the paper. How many CONVICTIONS!!!! How many of these people are arrested and are let go the next day? Then get arrested AGAIN Next week for the same thing. Logic dictates that a high arrest rate coupled with a high conviction rate would lead to a lower incident of meth lab busts. It hasnt. Now they are doing "Child Support Raids"
Whats next J Walking Arrests Just to get in the News. Free Publicity. It just makes the Sheriff's Department Look like they are doing something. I have yet to see any Hard evidence that their has been a reduction in Meth Labs. They are targeting the bottom feeders of the crimial food chain and not High Profile criminal cases. It is simply a Publicity Stunt!!!!

Well FYI the sheriffs office can arrest the people. The lawyers and the judges are to blame for putting them back on the street to get arrested again. Common people don't know how the system works. The officers just do there jobs, then it is up to the court, lawyers and judges. So if your gonna make accusations then blame the right people. Thank you
