In addition it causes blindness due to the encephalitis and other severe complications. Unortunately the public is still unaware of the dangers. My 73 year old father was in the hospital in ICU and acute care beginning Sept 2008 qns was released home in May of 2009. He also required 24/7 oxygen via trach. During his stqayin ICU he was in 15 antibiotics as preventive medicine only, there is no cure fir WNV.
He is still unable to walk and will not regain his eyesight. PLease be very diligent about taking care when outside. WNV is very damaging.

symptoms are severe headache, fever, disoriented( my Dad looked like he was on heavy narcotics) It took 6 days to diagnose. He ws also in coma. My family and I have written to every news channel to no avail to educate people about WNV to no avail. Just be careful. Check out the CDC website.
