Now for the rest of the story.

The arguments of a couple of present Paris city council members to let stand the wrongful annexation of property surrounding the city back in 1999 could indicate illogical processing of information, slanted advice, or out right greed in the name of what is best for all the people.

Councilman Steven Brown argued that the property should be disannexed in the name of fairness, and I agree with him. Council woman Rhonda Rogers argued to continue the past council’s wrongful actions. She made the statement,“When is life fair” and “We need to look beyond a few dozen people and look at the greater good”. When you have the chance to be fair and don’t, or have the chance to correct an unfairness and you don’t, you are unethical, immoral, and in this case circumventing the intent of the law passed in 1999 requiring cities to provide adequate services for newly annexed property.

Why was the law changed in 1999? Because it was unfair. The land grab of 1998 and early 1999 has been corrected in some areas. Some of the wrongfully annexed property has been disannexed, but more needs to be done.(check this out at www.paristexas.gov , e-government access, search, disannexation, enter, pages 2,3,4,5)
I would encourage the Texas Legislature to require cities to provide the services or pay damages as there appears to have been quite a bit of conspiring going on during the land grab.

It’s all about value. Why would I want to be in the City of Paris? I get nothing for my tax dollars. The City should give me reasons to want to be in the City, not want out.

Councilwoman Rogers stated the police department has made over a hundred calls to our area in some amount of time, which I don’t recall. If we are such a drain on city resources one would think they would not want us in the city. We have no city sewer, fire hydrants, cable, early warning sirens, or regular police patrols as stated in our applications for disannexation. We do have county water which we had prior to 1999.

Mayor Freelen argued that the area on FM1508 was some how related to the four laning of HWY 271 S. to Mt. Pleasant. Something about the city spending money for right of way for the construction.

I understand the state has delayed the project for the for-seeable future due to lack of funds. I was absolutely hoping the project could have been done years ago. If the city would construct a sewer lift station on Big Sandy Creek, development could possibly happen at some point, but not likely in the near future. Even with complete services we are last choice over east and north.

Mayor Freelen argued that we connect the city to Cox Field Airport. City engineering compiled a map of the area to be disannexed on FM1508 and it included FM1508. I asked why? Answer was that the city may at some point in the future be asked by the state for funds to help upgrade the road and right of way. That’s just wrong. The city should keep FM1508 as allowed for in Texas Local Government Code No. 43.102.

The statement by the Paris News that the increased fire insurance premiums would exceed the city property tax now being paid is ridiculous and we also have to pay Paris Junior College taxes, again we did not choose to be in the district.

Many opinions are that all is not well at city hall, however, wrongful actions of the past can easily be corrected. Thank you for reading my thoughts.

Nice to see Charley is still the same STAUNCH/OPPINIONATED guy he used to be. LOL
I hope you're happy Charley. I'm SURE you're STILL ALONE. And I HOPE you're NOT. But I DO hope you're happy. And I am glad I chose the RIGHT GUY. iT'S BEEN 20 years and he's been a wonderful companion (&HUSBAND for the last 10 years).
That's all I ever wanted. Unfortunately you never wanted to be able/capable/whatever/to provide THAT.
You were always SO SELFISH about your "stuff"...which in hindsight really didn't amount to much now that I look back at it.(I guess it "looked good" when I was 20 but looking back I kind of have to laugh at it)
HE did.....and we made a VERY NICE life together....
NOT surprised to see that you're still alone and lonely. NOT surprised at ALL.
Best of luck to you.,....Seriously...I wish the best for you.
