Why don't you kill your neighbor.....a dog is an animal.....they don't know much better.

To the Bass family, I am so sorry that you have to go through this and lose a wonderful animal in this way. We really do need stronger dog laws and a way to have them enforced. Things are really bad in Knox County and it does not do much good to call Animal Control. Things need to change and Animal Control needs to take people serious with aggressive dogs before we lose more human and good pets.

What people need to do is stop expecting Big Brother to take care of them. Apparently this is only the latest transgression that these dogs have been allowed to commit. It also appears that the other attacks have happened on other peoples property. The bottom line is this. If a vicious animal comes on your property and attacks your pet or a member of your family deal with it yourself.
I'm truly sorry to hear about Max but I don't understand how/why the attacking dogs got by with it. I love dogs but I wouldn't have hesitated to shoot those Akitas.

Studies have been done to show that once an animal has killed or seriously injured another animal it just a matter of time before they start attacking people. These dogs should have been classified dangerous dogs level one to prevent this.

Where are the "Ban the Breed" folks? I cant belive you're not on your soapbox screaming to Ban & Neuter all Akitas. You really dissappoint me.
My heart truly does go out to Maxs' family, to lose a pet you have had that long is devestating under the best conditions, let alone conditions such as these. I belive I would have shot the akitas after the second attack tho.

Well here's a question....WHAT HAPPENED TO LAWS REGARDING RIGHT & WRONG?

My niece Jennifer Lowe is dead......Charles Smallwood got a 50.00 fine.

I have been pleading with the community via knoxnews.com & www.myspace.com/JenniferLowefoundation

TO GO TO THE MEETINGS! The next is JANUARY 28th.
Having 2 to 10 Knox. Citizens there is really not enough. The baby steps Knox County is a joke.

Charles Smallwood signed a document on August 28, 2007 ORDERING HIM to MUZZLE THE DOGS...and the Friday before the attack...he was in the front yard playing with 6 dogs....Hmmmm be glad you weren't walking down his street.

But perhaps you will be....he was evicted. Perhaps he moving to your neighborhood next.

PLEASE GO TO THE MEETING!!!!!!! PLEASE.
DON'T let JENNIFER LOWE'S DEATH BE IN VAIN...

And for GOD's SAKE...PROTECT YOUR FAMILY.

I can also tell you we are not ANTI LARGE DOGS, BREEDS....ANYTHING of that sort. But here it is as simple as I can explain it.

Since you CANNOT sort out the STUPID PEOPLE....Then we are forced to sort out by dog...size, weight, breed ....whatever it takes to protect INNOCENT PEOPLE.

Please check out Jennifer's MYSPACE....We would love to have you as a friend or guest.
BTW....Pray for her MOM Teresa...She has had ZERO closure with Jennifer's death....ZERO.

What a sad story. My heart goes out to the Max's family.I would see that thow's dogs are put down ecause the next time it might be a human being that they kill. And I think that anyone that owns a agressive dog that attacks another persons pet or a family member should do a great deal of time in jail. And never be allowed to have another pet for the rest of there life.i hope the owners that own these dogs will do the responsible and have them put down before they attack again and I thank the owners should be doing time in jail sence this isn't the first time they have attacked. And if it had been reported sooner maybe the Max's dog would still be around even though they talked to the neighbors about those dogs sometime that doesnt work so its best to report the first attack.

Get a shotgun and blast those dogs. The animal control and police won't take care of the situation unless the dogs attack a human. It may be too late If you wait until that happens. I had a dog that bit someone and had to put it down. If a dog tastes blood one time they will bite again over and over.

The owner should take the dogs and drop them off at Ragsdales house.

I know that pets take the place of children to some and they are also God's "Creatures". Well, they ain't human! God gave Man "Choice" and Creatures were given "Instinct". All animals that eat meat, feed off the dinner table meat scraps, meat treats, ALL hunting dogs should be killed. This is the logic that I see here! I guess the courtesy dogs would have to go too, woe to the disabled that depends on a large breed dog.

A dog dos not go after more blood after tasting it, I would really like to see the written report or link to it. How many people out there has had there dog to get out of their containment area to roam at night or while your were away from home to run amuk! Should you be punished since you had already put a fence up, electrical wire, and other measures. By reading what has been listed here, we all are criminals or will be when the ordinances start rolling. Oh, don't forget FIFI when she accidely bit into a mouse, bird, or rabbit. FIFI would be ruled ferocious too! In your own words, she did taste blood, maim, or kill a creature!

I love animals, but I also have to admit that I have put down dogs in my life and may have to do it in the future.

Instinct is ALL a dog has to go by, otherwise it would not be a dog!

To each, his/her own opinion. But don't push your opinion on me and I won't push mine.

having had my daughter attacked by several dogs owned by a family of felons that live across the street from us, I can tell you this as I was warned, even by the DA's office when I called. Those problem people who knowingly and willingly thumb their noise at the laws, will suck you dry with lawsuits for killing their animal and they will win. Not only that, you will be charged for discharging a firearm within city limits unless you can prove by show of blood on the animal or child that was attacked, and have a witness not directly involved testify to the fact. All they do is after the 3rd bite, give the animal up, get a new one, and the process starts all over again. The law needs to prohibit people with a history of this behavior from owning animals.
