I think if someone is in such bad health and pain they should have a health nurse come out and give pain shots and stop giving perscriptions because this will certainly stop alot of sellers and keep alot of people getting the addiction.

I lived in Knott Co. for 21 years and then I moved to Northern Ohio. Back in the day that I lived there, the drug problem was bad but not as bad as it now. It's a shame!!!! Knott County was a great place to live. I loved it there. You could not give me a million dollars and a mansion on top of Bear Fork Mountain to move back there with my kids. We always come to Knott Co. for the Gingerbread Festival and after the festival is over my family is SO ready to leave, and so am I. I lived in Ball Creek (VEST) seen alot of things in my 21yrs there and now we only visit. The drugs and people drinking and driving on the roads down there are HORRIBLE!!! If you get caught once that should be the last.. they should make something along the sportsplex for people who have drug and drinking issues. the atv trails will be polluted with drunks and drug users before to long. if it hasn't already.. waiting to see that on the news...

drugs are just so bad here....they take them to court and convict them then let them out on probation so they can continue doin the same things...they have to drug test once a month..so they do all they want intill it is time to drug test then drink alot of water and suprize they past the drug test..and everyone thinks they are drug free i think it is a joke the way it works..or they just take drugs that are not a narcotic and it dont show up on the drug test..i dont even know why the do drug test it doesnt show anything there is so many ways to get around them that it crazy

our family lived in knott co.for almost 2yrs. and i can tell you that we are so happy that we got out of knott co.! i was borned and raised in prestonsburg,ky. and we moved out of state for 4yrs and when we moved back, we moved to knott co. and that was the biggest mistake that we made. knott co. is filled with "DRUG DEALERS" as well as "THE PEOPLE THAT GROWS IT", and it is really sad, that local law inforcement there in that county, knows the people that are doing this, and they don't do anything about it. I know this for a fact, cause I made a phone call to the local authorities there, about a resident that i knew was growing pot plants on their property and about the traffic flow at this residence, and as well as this residence having a house full of young people at all times, and the response i recieved from the local law inforcement there was "WE HAVE TO HAVE PROOF,BEFORE WE CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM". how much more proof do they need? when all they would have had to do was go check out the area that was reported and the residence where all this activity was taking place and they could have had all the proof that they needed. so here is my opinion about the drug problems in knott co. it is a small town, and everyone knows everyone, and due to this that is why that the local law enforcement there, will not do anything to the people that they know that are doing this, exspecially if they are friends to these people that are growing pot. and then they wonder why the DRUG PROBLEM IS SO BAD IN KNOTT CO.? WELL THERE IS YOUR ANSWER. THEY TELL YOU TO REPORT THINGS LIKE THIS, BUT THEN THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT,IF THEY KNOW THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THESE THINGS PERSONALLY. I AM SO GLAD TO HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF ONE OF THE WORSE COUNTIES IN KENTUCKY, WHICH IS KNOTT COUNTY.SO IF YOU WANT TO GET YOUR FAMILY AND KIDS OUT OF A "DRUG INFESTED COUNTY" THEN I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU MOVE OUT OF KNOTT COUNTY, CAUSE IT IS ONE OF THE WORSE COUNTIES THAT I HAVE SEEN IN THIS STATE FOR ILLEGAL DRUG ACTIVITY.

I moved from knott county about 14 years ago. It saddens me to hear about all of the kids i went to school with dying. Every month my aunt is telling me another of my class mates have died, either od or car wrecks. It is so sad.
But the drug problem is not only in knott county, Bell county and harlan are getting just as bad.
With the loss of jobs it can only get worse.

it doesn't matter where you go, drugs are everywhere, and believe me, knott co is one of the cleanest counties around compared to the surrounding counties...you can't get away from them.If you are a recovering addict, you have to have the determination to stay away and dont put yourself into the situations where you could relapse.

Drugs are bad no matter where you go but knott county and the surrounding counties seem to be the ones that are talked about more than others...Drugs are bad but people that are on them need to realize there is help out there if they ask for it. I have known several people on drugs and they were just afraid to ask for help or did not know where to go to get it. Trust me there is help out there and dont be afraid to ask for it. Anyone that is judging these people need to realize addiction is a disease not just something that these individuals can get over in one day it is a lengthy process but it is possible with the right help, counseling, and God on there side. God does not judge so we shouldnt either. There is a program in hazard at one of the churches called Celebrate Recovery it is a wonderful meeting and it deals with addiction and other problems anyone is dealing with. Divorce, depression and so on. Living Waters is the church up by the flea market. Come check it out.
just remember if you are reading this and you do have a problem there is help and dont give up the only time it is too late to ask for it is when you are dead and if you dont get the help you need that is what could happen to you.

God put all things on earth so pot is not a drug it is a weed, people are the one that abuses it, as for the pills I totally agree that something needs to be done

I have called UNITE twice about drug dealing in my holler, and nothing is done about it. I think someone is paying someone off, just like the rest of the crooked officials here.

As a recovering drug addict (the breaking point being when my girlfriend and I received death threats over lies and these types of people having no idea of personal responsibility), I can tell you that the drug problem is far from under control. I can go to any place in knott co and find drugs. I love Knott Co. and I've lived here my whole life and had hoped that one day I would be able to raise my kids here with my entire family. But as it stands I will get them as far away as possible, its just not worth it to stay around here when I know that my children will face the same troubles that I have. Really something needs to be done, that or just wall off Knott Co. and let the dealers and "badasses" stay here by themselves have it. I can't stand the people around here anymore, every time I think I have a friend they end up being the same damn person who will sell their own parents out just to make a deal or a pill. I just don't know what happened to people being accountable to themselves and only themselves. Seems like everyone would just screw you over anymore as opposed to get out, get a job, and be a man.

I was born & raised there then moves for a job. The problem is no longer pot it is the pills. The law enforcement tries to do something but they lock them up and unite goes straight and gets the same drug dealing thiefs out of jail almost before they can book them. Also Knott County isn't the only county it is all of eastern KY including Floyd and Pike.

half the people in the thread had to leave to find a job and nobody has a damn clue as to why the drugs are so bad around here.

either you go and pay good money for a little card that says you're allowed to work in the mines then hope and pray you will get hired on somewhere with a greencard.

or you go get a scrip and sell that to keep the lights on in your house.

or you just sit around in the dark and sweat over a long handled hoe to keep from starving to death. and in the last case you proly spend all your money at a liquor store in the next county anyway because there ain't a goddamned thing in knott county.

seriously, keep selling your votes and praying to jesus and see how much better it gets
