My goodness. What is it about Carnation that makes people kill their families or abuse their children? A very back country hidden town?

I cannot believe they are only being charged with "criminal mistreatment." That is an OUTRAGE. Would this not fall under the attempted murder category. They can feed their animals and take them to the doctor, but not their children.

Thats because she is a self centered individual and has always been that way. She will get what she deserves just wait and see.

I sure hope you are right. This is so disgusting. How could anyone treat another individual this way? If she treated her dog like this the humane society would have taken the dog away that day, not recommended counseling and closed the case. Maybe CPS needs to take lessons from the humane society. We need more pro child laws in place!

Having lived in Carnation, I can tell you that it is a sweet country town. In 1977 there was 1 murder. Not until this year have there been any "serious" headline grabbing news. Don't judge an entire community by the happenings of a very, very few bad apples. I also am appaled by this child abuse story, but come on - you cannot judge a town on it.

The father chose not to "interfere" when he knew what was happening to his own flesh and blood and he allowed that evil woman to treat HIS child that way every day. I cannot wrap my brain around this case. Witholding water as a form of punishment, and only toast to eat? I guess she was always in a hurry because she needed to get the pooches to the vet. This is sickening and my heart is hurting for this little girl. Both "parents" are despicable and it seems that CPS dropped the ball by assuming that the she-devil stepmother had seen the error in her ways; they should have done some follow-upon a regular basis.

Amen to that. Sounds like you know her. Me, too.

Unfortunately, the people of Washington are not very educated in the process of the CPS system--The Social Worker will fight tooth and nail to have a child removed or to have parent's held accoutable, however the judicial system (particularly judges) whom have never seen these children make the final decision of what happens to a family or what services they will or will not follow through with--so before we start blaming CPS workers maybe we need to take away some of the power of judges who make these decision without having first hand knowledge--CPS workers have very little power--so put the blame where it needs to go and lets protect our children

Agreed.
out on bail

I just watched the news...they are out on 20,000 bail? They can go catch a movie and get a burger?
Withholding water is a method of torture. It has been used on Prisoners of War for centuries.
Seriously, my cat weighs half as much as the girl. What if my husband forbid me to drink water and locked me up? Would he be out on bail? I don't have kids, but I do have sense and compassion and it is very clear children have very few rights. SHAME!Shame on the judge for letting these villians out on bail! Not to mention the 3-4 (according to the news)years in jail if convicted. People with traffic offenses have served more time. I hope this poor girl can turn around and sue the judicial system for not punishing the culprits appropriatly.
Charges for these people/fiends should be attempted murder.
