Educators decry SC gov's anti-bailout stance

Full story: Charlotte.com

COLUMBIA, S.C. Parents and teachers in a state with one of the nation's worst graduation rates are predicting their governor's vow to reject federal cash for schools will cost hundreds of teaching jobs, crowd classrooms and hurt poor children.

As a teacher, I have to ask ....

Why is it that is is only teacher's jobs are on the chopping block, with no mention whatsoever of restructuring the system to become less top heavy and make do with less administrators.

Teachers are being used as mere political pawns without fail every few years. Yet, even with increased spending in education, proportionally less and less makes its way to the classroom, and to the pockets of actually educators (you know, the ones from whom parents expect the services), and we've have created more and more positions for administrators at every level (you know, the ones who get in the way of educators and teachers)

Especially with the fact that sanford wants to thin the top admin at DOE. Why are the districts not reducing the staff at the office. Now, some of the teachers that are not getting renewed were not going to be rehired anyways and the lose of TERI teachers is a mixed blessing. The are some that still love teaching and are not doing it for the money and others are in for the additional money only.

Wow, you've really hit the nail on the head with this. Too darn many chiefs and not enough people who actually get things done. Beaurocracy at it's most prolific, dangerous level. It's pure idiocy to put more people in admin jobs and cut teaching positions. But, such is the state of affairs in our nation, sadly.

I don't even have a child in the school system, but I surely do dislike all of this foolishness. I really feel for the teachers, most of whom care deeply about their chosen careers, and for their students, who will ultimately suffer because of this nonsense.

I still wonder had the spendlus package not been passed, how many teachers and LE officers would have been let go. Just wondering.

Do not look at the man behind the curtain, it is all smoke and mirrors and politics.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Cancer

Discussions and meetings go really well today because you're finding it easy to put your thoughts into words. You'll also show that you respect other people's viewpoints even if they don't coincide with your own. It's a good day for making domestic plans, and some of these will be quite ambitious without being unrealistic or far-fetched.
