Hundreds of good healthy tree's are damaged or destroyed each year by drunk drivering fools. When will people ever learn not to drive while intoxicated.

Without trying to sound insensitive. I am just happy he did not hit someone else. Drinking and driving, no seat belt...sounds like he made more than one bad decision.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, no one deserves to be put through this.

Two of the commentors are jumping to conclusions......the news article said "Deputies say alcohol LIKELY played a role in the crash." "LIKELY" is the key word. It hasn't been confirmed, WZZM 13 should not report what is NOT known.

Well, no seatbelt is a definate law broken, odds are he WAS drunk, non-impaired drivers seldom just lose control and hit trees. I agree with Staternater I am thankful that this criminal didn't hurt anyone else. I hope that if he survives he gets a bill for the response and clean up of his "accident".

Rockford man critically injured in alcohol-related crash

Updated: Sep 21, 2007 08:42 AM EDT

ROCKFORD -- A Rockford man is in critical condition after being thrown from the truck he was driving, police say, drunk.

Police say, 38-year-old Kevin Sakowski lost control of his truck and hit a reflector pole, a dumpster, and a for sale sign before his vehicle came to a stop after hitting a tree head-on. Sakowski was ejected from the truck after impact. Police say he was on his way home from the Crazy Horse Saloon and crashed within a 1/2 mile of his home. It happened around 1:00 a.m. Friday at 14 Mile court near 14 Mile road and Northland drive in Rockford.

Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash. Sakowski was not wearing a seatbelt

Sakowski was taken by helicopter to Spectrum Butterworth, downtown campus with severe head trauma, he's listed in critical condition.

Another one on 14 mile. How many accidents does it make it so far this year on that road? Drunk, impaired or not, I hope he recovers. My thoughts are with his family.

Yeah and maybe this was, let's say the 100th time he drove drunk and his luck ran out. Thank God he didn't hurt anyone else! I feel sorry for his family and the pain he has caused them.

While I sympathize with the family I will NEVER sympathize with someone who was injured drunk driving. I lost two family members and a close friend to a drunk driver. Too many people lose their loved ones because people get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Though we won't know for certain if this was his first time, I think it is safe to say that odds are against him. Most people that get behind the wheel after drinking have done it several times before getting caught. It starts as just around the block, or down the street, and turns into across town, or 20 miles away. Just like any criminal they get way to comfortable doing it, and get more careless. Lucky for us most get pulled over and thrown in jail, and others not so fortunate get caught only after an accident, often times fatal.

It probably wont be long now, till his family and friends show up here, to tell us all how great of a person he is and how we all need to quit judging him and call us names because we don't know all the facts.

I agree that there needs to be a better way to stop people like this. It is absolutely inexcusable for anyone to drive drunk. I wonder if the Crazy Horse will get sued over this. Maybe people who get caught drunk driving should be tried for attempted manslaughter.

I AGREE Staternater - I've also lost Family Members because of drunk drivers - this 38 year old was pronounced "Code K" when officers arrived - the dumb aho is lucky to be alive & very lucky he didn't kill anyone else!

This strongly hurts me that my father's accident would headline as being drunk. He was NOT drunk. I am VERY angry and offended that the police would suggest the accident was caused by alcohol. Please, get your facts straight before you headline a story or publish a story like this. I take the headline greatly offensive.

You bet Kiley the daughter....three sheets to the wind and drunk on his butt. If the police said likely, I take it that likely means that he was.
