We had the extreme pleasure of flying with “Helicopter Joe” just this past January 2007. I and the rest of my family share in the loss of a great human being and servant of mankind…Joe Sulak AKA Helicopter Joe. He not only made us all feel very secure in a strange and different environment..a Helicopter! Joe shared his personel life experence of serving in Vietnam in some of the most heated of battles as well as hundreds of civilian "Life Flight" missions flown in service to his fellow man. Joe was a man who took his job seriously and saftey was a priority. I am a pilot myself and speak from my own experience. It was obvious from the very beginning of our tour that this man had a great passion for what he was doing. He took great pride and satisfaction in his life on the Island and he had the perfect job. He was a man who loved his family and cared deeply for people. He loved life. He loved flying. He loved people. I learned all this about Joe in just 45 minuites. I and my family grieve his loss and the loss of the other families involved in this tragic event. We still have our precious pictures and memories of the day we met “Helicopter Joe!

Joe "Helicopter Joe" was a very good friend of ours. We had the pleasure of knowing him and spending time with him when he lived here in Folsom, CA. He was one of the most intelligent people I have ever known. I will always remember the time he took us to the claim, where he used to dredge for gold. The fun we had on that day as many others. The music that he introduced to us. And the great sense of humor. I will miss him. And will forever keep his memories.

I wish I could have flown with Joe.
He must have been one hell of a man.

We had the great pleasure of flying with Joe "Helicopter Joe" in March 7th, 2006. Exactly one year and one day before the accident. Everything Joe talked about during our flight was how proud of his family he was, how much he loved his family and job, and what he had done all his life. He was a very nice and friendly guy... at least that is what we perceived in those 45 minutes we flew with him.
Our biggest respect for him.
