"They're in a civil war over the definition of their party," said Paul Blank, a Democratic consultant. "And the extremists have won."

How unlike the Democratic Party, where there are none but extremists, and thus no possibility of a civil war over the definition of the party.

"Moderate" Republican: Democrat.
"Extremist" Republican: Not a Democrat.

Owen's won a very narrow victory over a seat he'll hold for barely a year before it's up for re-election. And it took a fake republican (the RINO Scuzzyfava) to get him that much. Save your bragging about what little victory you achieved in this election until he proves he can hang on to his seat in 2010. Meanwhile, in NJ the Gov. Christie despite the usual ACORN voting mischief removed another corrupt democrat in a state that is predominantly democrat. Now that's a victory to brag about. Or despite Obama and crazy Joe's best effort in Virginia a Republican still won. The first in 12 years.

The fact that the RINO backed out of the race two days before the Election and then endorsed the DemocRAT speaks volumes: RINOs are weasel who can't be trusted.

Is there a purge of moderates from the GOP? One can only hope!

The Republicans who won in NJ and VA are moderates. The loser in upstate NY was a conservative.

Hours and hours of hate radio and the Fox freaks, robo-calls by Plain Crazy Palin, and all the other Reich-wing efforts came up short. Ignorance and hate only goes so far.

"Is there a purge of moderates from the GOP? One can only hope! " Me too! Get the Repugs down to 10-15%.

Gotta disagree with in Virginia. McDonnell is a Pat Robertson Reich-wing Rapture Right Christo-Nazi & anti-abortion cultist. BUT he didn't face a primary challenger and was pretty much able to avoid letting folks know how Reich he is.

Deeds was not only a lousy candidate from a charisma stand point, he did not run as a progressive! Deeds largely distanced himself from Obama’s agenda and that left the base at home.
Not progressive on Climate Change
Not progressive on Health Care
Not progressive on Labor issues
Not progressive on Immigration Reform

Additionally, The Repugs Governors Assn gave $2 million directly to McDonnell and spent over $4.5 million on negative attack ads.

As Alan Grayson recently said:“You can not beat a Republican by being one. People deserve a choice, and they'd like a Congressman [governor] with guts.”

"Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time." Harry Truman.

“To live like a Republican, vote like a Democrat.” Harry Truman.

Anyone who stands for life in any party is good.

More democrats should be pro life, and pro protection of religious freedom, as well as pro heterosexual marriage legal definition because too . Republicans are only concerned with financial racketeering. They are too rigid on running a government for the people.

And democrats are too liberal with taxpayer dollars.

Our trillion dollar deficit was thanks to spend crazy republicans. The war in Iraq was about looting public money to make contractors like KBH and other's rich. Republicans are also the ones who gave billions, and billions to greedy irresponsible businesses and Wall ST.
Republicans spend like shopping addicts and jive some turkey about being small government. What a laugh.

No, but there was no Republican running. Owens should have won by a landslide but he didn't. A conservative that no one ever heard of took half his votes. Better worry Dems.

The fact is the most liberal person running was the Republican who dropped out at the last minute. Had the Republicans had a primary instead of having some lib appointed to run, they would have kept the seat. Let's face it, the Republican party is in a shambles, yet they still beat the Democrats in NJ and VA. As more and more people get pissed off by Obama, Pelosi, et.al., the anti-incumbency movement will grow.
