I can say it works. They called me twice Friday evening to warn me and though no tornadoes touched down close to me, I was glad that I knew to be on the watch for one.

"Of the 250,000 in Jefferson County only a little over 53,000 have signed up". I live in Jeff Co. First I've heard of it. Maybe more would sign up if they advertised it either by mail, flyers or at voting polls. I'm glad it's in place, but find it interesting they are acting like the residents aren't signing up because of some other reason than they have never heard of it before.

It has been on the news, in the newspapers, and was heavily advertised during the 9-1-1 sales tax campaign. I suppose it is hard to hit every single person, but I am glad we know about it now!

So do we call 911 to sign up for this or how does that work? What's the charge?

I'm in JeffCo and had never heard of it. Not a big deal because I can hear my siren and the ones north and south of me also.

There is NO charge, although I'm sure you could call the JCSD and ask them....that's who called us!

Remembered seeing this on the news last month and wanted to get my number in...couldn't remember WHERE to do it at...Thankfully I found that here.
