Actually no and I do apologize, You are right I was out of line. Thank you for correcting me. It has been a long hard day and I still have 3 more hours of work to do. No excuse, but it is what it is.

Opinion 99,

Have some serious projects myself for at least two more weeks. But the other project is not forgotten - maybe in the Fall when it cools down and people are more sociable. Thanks.

Is anyone interested in preserving the history of Hazlehurst/Jeff Davis Co.? The insurance will rebuild it. The City and Co. will not be subjected to any more expense than they are presently paying on that project. You want something to be proud of or not?

Everyone wants our history preserved. The question is how do you justify not using empty space already paid for(old library, top of Big House, Heritage Center, room in courthouse like Montgomery County? Spend ,spend is over in this country.

old library is a possibility but the building is in bad shape and does not look "historical"

problems with top of big house would be how to secure the area when museum is not open. also have to consider handicap and elderly access. there is an old elevator in the building but how much would it cost to repair/replace it.

heritage center is just too remote and no paved access road.

its obvious you havent been in the courthouse lately. there is no spare room available.

i saw a big for sale sign at the house on the corner across from sues house of flowers. that could be restored to a very attractive building for a museum and it has a big side yard for parking.

You do not understand. Insurance will pay for rebuilding on the spot. What the Big House amts. to is renovate at a lot of expense to accomodate handicapped on top floor. A. C. and heating in such an old building would be atrocious. You would still have an old building that county/city would love to get rid of and out from under. Th Hist. Soc. would have no owenership in Big House if it burned. Insurance will also pay for contents which will give the Hist. Soc. some elbow room on making inside look like a museum. If Hist. Soc. moves it will not get as much ins.. Many other reasons. City may want old lib. for city hall - Southside may want it for church additions, and many other reasons plus it would take a fortune in renovation that woul have to meet todays codes and expense still not all be covered by ins.. Least local expense and best in long run - rebuild where is. No need to involve the number of situations that would be involved in what you mention and absolutely no savings to the Co. in long or short run.

The only way to fix the house you mention is to bulldoze.

FYI I also think that would be a good place if it would not cost to much to restore that place. But if they rebuild on the same site the insurance co. will pay them more from what I was told. As far as that house you mentioned, have you been in it within the last few years. I was in it a couple of yrs ago. I think it will cost a lot to fix that place to make it sound. I bet it was a real nice place years ago.

Buy the house and lot and renovate properly??????????Remember if you do that you leave some of the ins. money on the table for the ins. co. to keep.
