Man, 21, pleads guilty to punching 59-year-old woman, breaking her jaw Pedro Guzman, 21, was charged with first-degree assault for punching the woman and breaking her jaw during an altercation on May 23, 2008, said Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.

Zahnd said the incident unfolded after Guzman had given a woman a ride to her grandmother’s home. Guzman became angry because he thought the passenger had shut his car door too hard.

The grandmother, who was standing outside, asked Guzman to leave, but instead he punched her in the face, breaking the woman’s jaw, Zahnd said.

The woman was unable to eat solid food for four weeks. She continues to have pain and headaches as a result of the injury, he said.

Zahnd said phone calls from the Platte County Jail recorded Guzman saying,“People got to learn not to mouth off to people they don’t know.”

Guzman is scheduled to be sentenced May 20.

“It is despicable for a man to punch a woman – and even more so when the woman is nearly 40 years older than the man,” Zahnd said.
