They obviously forget to factor in those who voluntarily choose to be without a home which could account for a lot. It's all in the liberal definition. Note the figure could include all persons in jail for a limited term or in the hospitalor mental ward receiving treatment. It could also include college students residing in a dorm. What is the real liberal agenda behind the figures?

I appreciate Mike's interest in the issue of homelessness, although a little research prior to commenting would be more useful. These numbers come from homeless shelters and are unduplicated across the state. It does not include jails or mental institutions, nor college students (although 4% were discharged from institutions without a place to go). Regarding those who voluntarily choose to be homeless, they have been factored in and they are less than 1% of the total.
These are just the numbers, no estimates, no agenda, just people.

I got a neighbor living 2 doors down from me that works on the corner for "I Will Work For Food", Assessment on his house is listed at $111,063. Call me a liar? Go for it, Sue me.

Its not uncommon to have an increase in the homeless population when the economy is as bad as it is...The vast majority of Americans are now within 1 or 2 paychecks of homelessness themselves, we need to support the private and religious organizations that provide assistance to these people, but I'm not so much for government involvement in this....let the churches and private organizations do the work.

Regarding hmmm's comment. If your neighbor isn't staying at a homeless shelter, than he is not included in this count. One example of a person taking advantage, does not refute the larger number of people in need. Kevinfromduluth is correct, in fact poverty/homelessness tends to be a lagging indicator, which means it tends to follow a year to two behind general economic trends.

David, your an idiot and do you have to comment everytime someone else does? Are you that pathetic that you can't just make your comment and then leave it alone? It's sad that you feel the need to comment everytime someone disagrees with you. Also a common liberal agenda.

Hi Lisa, so pleased to meet such a thoughtful person. I comment because we wrote the report and it bothers me when people make up their own "facts" and dismiss reality. If we can't have an honest discussion about an important issue, then why comment at all.

It is the responsibility of corporations that benefit from an impoverished population as a ready workforce on demand to care for the drippings of capitalism when times are bad. Only the state can make the happen in an orderly and equitable way.
