We have GOT to get rid of auto vehicles. That is a given. There just simply is NO OTHER solution that will deal with the severe problems that America is faced with. With that fact being said, the NEXT question I'm always asked is: Okay, how do we accomplish that? Answer: Public Mass Transportation. But it MUST be QUALITY Public Mass Transportation. It must be done with a flair for excellence. People MUST be able to get to practically anywhere they need to go. And they MUST be able to get there in a VERY reasonable amount of time. Because it is Public MASS Transportation (with the operatve word here being "MASS", indicating MASSIVE, HUGE), it is safe, reliable, comfortable, fun, and efficient. The idea would be to have private auto vehicles be replaced with QUALITY Public Mass Transportation. Notice I said "PRIVATE auto vehicles". You know--the kind like a lot of people have two or three of sitting in their driveways and garages. The idea is that there would still be ambulances, fire trucks, and some police cars and delivery trucks, etc., but that is about all. There would be buses and taxicabs as part of the Public Mass Transportation, so they would be part of the new idea. To do all this would require that we CAN NOT "cave in" to the "big political machinery". We (taxpayers, consumers, citizens, sensible people) would have to steadfastly INSIST on certain things for it all to work.

You post only to these kinds of articles. Your preaching is getting rediculous because you say the same thing over and over. Ok put your money where your mouth is! Please tell us all how people are supposed to get around without an auto vehicle? Reality is you need a vehicle to get anywhere. Please do everyone a favor and SHUT UP already!

Juan Paublo Morales Rodriguez adn his family just raked up another $300,000 in medical bills for the citizens of the U.S. tax payers to pay. It is obvious this had to be a spanish family or a Hatian Family. This country can not continue to foot the bill of these ignorant people. Sad thing is now they will probably say the tire blew out and sue everybody from the state to the tire company and settle for a Million.

Youíre a piece of work. You mean to tell me that people canít travel to see there families? The driver may have drifted off to sleep at the wheel or even tunnel vision while driving. That happens. Buses and cabs get into accidents too as well as trains. And someone needs to work you over real good. RIP

I knew it was a Ford Explorer before I read the article. Those death draps are a scourge on our highways. They should be banned forever.

Explorers can have the third row seat and can easily accomodate 8-9 people if half are children. Not to wear seatbelts, however, is ignorant. We travel to Orlando a lot and I've seen some bad rollovers with yellow tarps around. If they were all ejected and had only one fatality, they were lucky.

OK, so let's be accurate. The 3rd row seat was not an option until 2002 or 2003. Even adding the 3rd row option Ford rates the Explorer for 7 people. Look at the photo of the crash - no 3rd seat, so the kids were sitting in the cargo area and there was no way to have them in seatbelts.

Doesn't matter the make of the SUV, if the driver fails to understand they are driving a slightly more top heavy truck, they're just plain ignorant. Take a top heavy truck, load it over capacity and you get a rolled over vehicle, plain and simple. I'm sure it's still somehow all of Ford's fault though.

.........and the truth is, had they been wearing seatbelts, they would have walked away from this accident.

Rather than bash Ford or the Explorer, look at the photo and look at the passenger compartment, it is basically unscathed.

The fault lies with the auto vehicle. The DRIVERS and ALL OTHER PEOPLE involved in participating in the use of private auto vehicles can be blamed, punished, castigated, disciplined, chastised, preached to, sued, prosecuted, demeaned, berated, sentenced, imprisoned, fined, scourned, persecuted, all you want and it will NOT clear up the ROOT CAUSE of the problems:.....AUTO VEHICLES.

OK. It is time to move forward! It is good to point out all the problems with the Auto Vehicle but what about the Solution? It is time to begin the discussion of a grand project plan that outlines the phasing out of the Auto Vehicle. There needs to be a workable project that outlines all the steps that are necessary. Everbody needs to get involved. Private citizens, public officials, etc. In a sense, we are in the "first phase" which is "Phase 1: Education and Awareness". Mr. "Concerned One" is leading this effort. Anyone else with relevant, substantive factors to contribute should feel free to do so. The release of "Phase II" should be ready to go and implemented during fiscal year 2008. Plus we need an official title to this grand project plan, such as "America's Transition from the Auto Vehicle to Public Mass Transportation" or something similar.
