Let me just say this: Video games are ruining our children. They are just as addictive and intoxicating as alcohol and drugs and based on this report, can cause violence in children.

Parenting per Dr. Spock. He really knew what he was talking about didn't he?
One of the best comments I have seen on this article. This generation that is in elementary, middle and high school is really the first generation that has grown up raised completely by the Dr. Spock mantra. Well, I have to say the track record isn't that good. The utter lack of responsiblilty, respect and simple common courtesy is revolting.
When will we realize that things aren't working right and more rules and laws against parents is not the answer?

Right, this is the perfect example of how "spare the rod, spoil the child" absolutely doesn't work!
I believe there is a big difference between a spanking and a beating. Spanking is about teaching boundaries and rules and the consequences when they are ignored or broken.
This kid obviously doesn't have boundaries or know there are rules (which I blame on his parents) but he's in for a harsh awakening.
I agree with you that there is a difference in a beating and a spanking. But I don't know if you can blame parents as much now. Parenting with a constant fear that you will go to jail for discipling your kid must be hard. I can't imagine it.

We don't have video games in our house because I never bought them. I never wanted to spent $$ on stuff I didn't want my kids to have in the first place! BUT...I disagree with you that the video game is the problem. Games may captivate the kids and cause them to lose interest in other aspects of their lives but that is not what motivated this boy to strike his mother. That's an indication of deep rooted problems within the family unit. Hopefully this boy and his family can receive services now that the authorities are aware of problems in the home.

I wonder how much of this is going on?
His parents called the police on him, GOOD....I wonder how many parents still put up with that kind of crap in a daily basis, with their spoil rotten, good for nothing, little spawns?

can an xbox 360 halo 3 game flush down the toilet without getting clogged? I think that's one parent who should have a plummer stand-by while she tries it, with her brat kid watching.

The only "service" this kid needs is the military service....Maybe he'll grow up there. won't be able to cry for the mommy he just punched out....

You can be certain that in the last days there will be some very hard times. people will love only themselves and money. They will be proud, stuck up, rude, and (Disobedient to their parents.) They will also be ungratful, godless,Heartless,
and hateful. Their words will be cruel, and they will have no self-control or pity. These people will hate everything that is good. They will be sneaky, reckless, and puffed up with pride.

Halo 3's cert is 15/Mature. It contains Strong Violence. The violence in the game had probably made the childs mood turn quite violent. He probably wouldn't of punched his mum, but the sudden pump of adrenalin and violence hit his head so he kicked and beat the #@^ out of her. Sorry for the profanity, I am expressing my anger (it is censored).

That would be complete B.S. Its not the video games OR the TV or movies that are ruining kids. It is the irresponsible idiots raising the kids with absolutely NO CLUE as to what ir right and wrong. People do not use any kind of moral compass to raise their kids and then wonder why little johnny comes out to be a t.u.r.d.
A little common sense goes a long way, Oh, and some consistancy and maybe a few rules.
