I am writing in support of the appointment of Johanna Rodoni filling the seat of her late husband, Roger Rodoni, as Humboldt County’s Second District Supervisor. Mrs. Rodoni has the same common sense views that WE voted for in Roger.

I suggest if an appointment is made by the governor, then it should be a former supervisor. Roy Heider would be that former 2nd District Supervisor.

I simply can not believe you people. Most of you are simply horrible and vitriolic. You embarass me.
Thank you Paul for your respectful remarks, but I really disagree with you that the person who is "elected" in June should get an additional 6 months. This rightfully belongs to Roger.
I totally support Johanna in this and respect her greatly.
Incidentally, Chance - LOL post is from Blue Lake.

Carol - Heider was ousted by Rodoni. Why should he then be brought back to fill his seat? And why are you so concerned about the 2nd district? Don't you live in the first district.
No - this should be for Johanna. I totally support her and AM a fifteen year resident of the second district.
And - I can count at least 4 women in the last 10 years that took their late husbands seat in congress.

anon, this is Humboldt County - not the U.S. Congress. My home is in the 1st district, my office is in the 2nd district. My child will attend Fortuna High, also in the 2nd district. I have lived in the 2nd district. If my opinion doesn't count because I don't reside in the 2nd district, then Rob Arkley's opinion shouldn't count either.

My husband and i drove by the wreak that day, and i felt sooo bad for all involved, not until today i found out who it was. Why does it always come down to politics. People remember Johanna was by his side for 30 years I'm sure she knows exactly what he would have wanted, and thats for her to take over until the end of the year. I sorry but I know nothing about politics, but I know whats right and whats wrong.

Anon, if people are to be civil, then you are included as well.

I think it would be really innappropriate for anyone else to do it.

"Wow, lots of nasty, inappropriate comments. It's too bad people can's show a little more humanity given this tragic death and sudden loss, even if you didn't agree with Roger's politics."
Paul - That was the BEST comment here!
People sure are brilliant when they're anonymous, huh?

Hey Timmay:
What about this one which I also liked:
"I simply can not believe you people. Most of you are simply horrible and vitriolic. You embarass me.

thank you to the few kind and decent folks who are not nasty and who understand how sad all of this is.

I think it is altogether fitting and proper that Johanna be appointed to fill Roger's seat for the balance of his term. She is in all ways the best person for that job, and those people who elected Roger have a right to have someone in office for the balance of his elected term, who understands what his philosopy of and approach to government was. That's what they voted for, and that's what they deserve to get. My sympathy goes to Johanna, and my best wishes to her as well in her aspriation to fill out the term. She'll do well as 2nd district Supervisor.

I'm from Alderpoint, in the 2nd district of Humboldt County, and I would appreciate it if the T-S would get whatever bug has been assigning locations to posters fixed.

Johanna Rodoni is the one who brought the discourse down to politics, taking an elected seat, and money. So if the rest of you folks want to close your eyes out of "respect" while she takes a step up on her dead husbands corpse, that's your cowardice.
The rest of us care about who would be best for the job, not who is the sentimental favorite and nepotism from the grave.

LOL wrote: This is ridiculous. She has no business even being considered for this. What's next, if the president dies, then the first lady should take over, not the VP? You obviously dont know much about this couple. Johanna is at least as politically experianced as Rodoni was.

anonymous wrote: Just a money grab for one of the few good jobs in the county. Shame on you, Mrs Rodoni. Why not let his body cool before you step on it to get a leg up. And no, I don't think being the recording secretary of the women's auxiliary pie-making grange qualifies you for being a supervisor. Come on. Do you know anything about this couple? She has far more experiance than you give her credit for. This is not a power grab on her part - she is truly the best choice to fill Rodoni's place.

Whom ever is the best qualified needs to step up to the plate to carry on. Johanna is one of the choices to be considered. This should not be a slam dunk or a right of passage. America and the 2nd district is a democracy in case some of you have forgotten.

This was Rogers elected seat, she was his wife and life partner I feel she has first right of refusal to the seat. I believe his name will also be on the June ballot. If he's re elected then the people of the 2nd district would have spoken and wouldnt that shut up the nay sayers

I don't know Mrs. Rodoni but a perfectly reasonable explanation for her writing to the Governor is that she feels an emotional responsibility to her husband and his constituents to carry on his policies. Please, can we assume the best here. Unless you know something factual, don't be accusing her of greedy grabs for power.
I think no one should be appointed until a winner is declared at the election only a month and a half away. The Governor should appoint that winner who could, however, be Mrs. Rodoni as a write-in candidate.
I was not planning on voting for Rodoni nor am I a supporter of his wife but its not necessary to trash people just because you aren't on the same side politically.
