Wegman's is a great store and would have a positive effect on Howard County's diversity of grocery stores. I can't wait for them to locate here.

I would love to see Wegman's in Columbia; can't wait for them to be here, especially given how close it will be to my house. My house is also off Rustling Leaf, but I don't think the concerns about the traffic increase are justified. There is an increase in traffic at certain times on some days, but for that to be an issue to prevent opening the store, I think is absolutely ridiculous. Not only will it bring up the grocery store standards but also be tax income source for the county and Columbia and be used for many much needed improvements.

It is about time that Columbia get some upscale stores to match it's upscale population! Quality at Giant and Safeway stores has been going down-down-down; Whole Foods never made it to Columbia. Without decent competition, the existing food stores are deteriorating constantly. We need better, fresher and more varied groceries; the success of Trader Joe's, Roots, David's and Produce Galore only prove that there is demand for a better product. Wegman's, welcome!

I think it's great - Giant especially has been taking customer loyalty for granted for no reason without producing quality food and reasonable prices. Soon we'll have a Wegman's in addition to the Mom's Organic Market and Trader Joe's all within a few miles of each other! Let's welcome Wegman's but not forget to continue to support MOM's and Trader Joes!

I agree with all of the posters about Wegman's. For many years Howard County has been inundated with the monopolies of Safeway and Giant. We need more competition in this county and building Wegman's is a part of resolving this problem. Alot of people have been critical about Wegman's saying it will increase traffic on Snowden River Parkway. However the argument is futile because the proposed location is in a Commercial Zone not a residential zone. I look forward to visiting Wegman's when it opens in the future.

Just took a trip into Buffalo and Niagara Falls in New York.
Had to do a very quickly planned wedding and Wegman's came through with
some beautiful flowers that I would have had to pay a fortune for a
a normal florist shop (calls made out to local florists were not helpful)
I was impressed by what I saw,the fresh produce, food stations, store layout and general helpfulness and
support of the store employees. Their food court was amazing and we enjoyed eating a lunch were all family
members could pick out what they were hungry for. I am tired of Giant and Safeway, they need more competition
I and my family will definitely enjoy a Wegman's close to our neighborhood.

I hope that Wegman's succeeds in building here in Columbia. I'm a native Western New Yorker. I grew up with Wegmans and my first job was with Wegmans over 30 years ago. In the last 30 years I have moved around from Western New York to Manhattan, Long Island, New Jersey and now live in Howard County. Wegmans is the best by far of any grocery retail chain. Wegmans is sensitive to the community and always has been supportive to the residents. In my opinion, Wegmans has provided the best quality in food, pricing and service as compared to the many other retail grocery chains. I believe that Howard County and Wegmans are an excellent fit and the community, at large, will benefit.

I absolutely love Wegman's. It would provide amazing products and foods for this ever expanding town. It would also provide a great place for people to work. It was named the number 1 company to work for a couple years ago by Forbes. I cannot wait!

I was one of the people who wrote to Wegmans and requested the store to come to Columbia. It's unfortunate that Giant and Safeway have the county in their pocket, though.

I grew up in West PA, we had Wegmans since the mid 80s. Wonderful. Nothing here compares. Who cares what the union says. They are bankrupting GM and Chrystler. Unions suck.

I moved here from Jersey last Fall. If Wegmans moves here, I will want for nothing!

I am uniformly disappointed by the local grocery stores (excepting TJ's -- but one can't do all their shopping at TJ's!). Columbia has such a discerning population that we need a store with Wegman's quality standards to force competition. I can't wait!

Everyone I know is anxious for Wegmans to come to Columbia, Maryland. I love the store in Hunt Valley--there's no better grocery store. Why are we letting the Unions control us??? I thought this was America and free enterprise!

I can't wait for Wegman's!! I am so tired of
Giant, their ever-decreasing selection (now they
spread things wider on the shelves so they look
fuller), decreasing quality and surly cashiers,
Safeway has an ok selection but the quality of
meats and produce has definitely slipped, cashiers
mostly would rather be somewhere else (often
texting or talking on their cell phones while
ringing an order). These two big chains have had
a monopoly for too long and they have gotten very

So....what's the verdict on Wegmans in Columbia? I haven't heard anything lately. The Giant continues to deteriorate and of course the union opposes it ... heaven forbid they would have to improve!!

So....what's the latest on Wegmans coming to Columbia? The Giant continues to deteriorate and of course the unions oppose it....heaven forbid they'd have to improve because there was competition!!

So....what's the hold-up on Wegmans coming to Columbia. The Giant continues to deteriorate, despite their big modernization and of course the union opposes it. Heaven forbid they'd actually have to deliver a decent product and compete with some good. It's so much easier to continue to have Columbia residents be forced to accept mediocrity at best!!

Wegmans is working through the appeals that get in the way of moving forward with the development on Snowden River. They are still committed to building the store. The economic downturn is not getting in the way.
I am as frustrated as others with the Unions obstructionist interference. In my view they put their self interest over the communitiy interest.
I see Wegmans as a destination retailer with a select group of customers. The othre chains will still have a market share becasue some customers will remain with their local store. Wegmans will atteract the out of county shoppers bringing greater business to the county. Their draw will spill over to other retailers nearby as customers cluster their shopping so places like DSW shoes, Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Goods, Best Buy, etc all nearby will benefit. Wegmans makes good business sense with its presence helping its retail neighbors.(keeping retailers nearby in business !)
