You are further proof that crime is institutionalized in Levelland. You probably do not know the difference between legal and illegal. No doubt you also have friends who are involved in that pool of perfidy known as Levelland

Probably one of the most corrupt counties and cities in the U.S. is Hockley County, Texas and its County Seat, Levelland. The recent drug busts there in the center of the city, two large houses almost next door to the unofficial community meeting place, MacDonald's, did not surprise me.

I owned a home there for about 9 years during the 1990s, until 2003, but soon rented it out and moved away. I felt like anarchy had take over the town. I reported several drug operations in my neighborhood and none were ever busted. Some moved away from my street because of me, not because of harassment by the police.

As recently as this decade, fighting cocks were being illegally raised in backyards all over the city. Live in Levelland and "enjoy" be awakened by the noise of dozens of these backyard "farms" before dawn every day. Two different neighbors were raising fighting cocks in their back yards just a stone's throw from the houses busted in the recent drug raids. I complained to the animal control and they told me that I'd have to get evidence, like photographs. I told them, "No problem." As I was walking out of WalMart with a new camera I had bought for the purpose, I met an officer (Williams). I told him that I was happy to gather evidence against those raising fighting cocks in downtown Levelland, but that it seemed to me that such investigation should be a duty of the PD and Animal Control. He agreed and went to one of the addresses I had given him, found the fighting cocks in the back yard and wrote citations. They moved out. For a while, I was not awakened before dawn by crowing cocks in the center of town, then it started up again.

In the 1980s, during a reunion at the Hockley County community of Pettit, fifteen miles northwest of Levelland, I discovered evidence that they were using the old defunct school's gymnasium as both a cock fighting and pit bull fighting arena. Sitting hens of the cockfighting breed had nests on the old gymnasium floor. A badly scarred pit bull was tied near the southwest corner of the gymnasium.

I have never seen such a small town as Levelland with so many deadbeats who do not pay their bills and so many who are welfare cheats. I am not referring to minorities, either. It's a way of life in Levelland.

When serial a killer like James Hicks moved from Maine to Levelland, it should have gotten the local police's attention. A police chief in Maine wrote the Levelland chief and told them to keep an eye on Hicks. He was a suspect in several murders in Maine and had served time for one murder. Obviously, the letter was ignored because soon afterwards Hicks was arrested trying to murder a woman in Lubbock where he was working as a handyman.

The Bandidos, probably the most criminal of all outlaw biker gangs, chose to move the operations of a large cell to Levelland before the drug busts of last July. The fact that they went by the name of "Aces and Eights" was not deceptive to the observant. The Bandidos have renounced their U.S. citizenship and should be kept under surveillance by the DHS, but probably are not.

When the sheriff, David Kinney, was recently relieved of his duties, it was probably only the tip of the iceberg in Levelland. Crime is institutionalized there, and it has been there since organized crime ran most of the vices of gambling, prostitution and bootlegging during the oil boom years. Old copies of the local newspaper attest to the fact that slot machines, prostitutes, illegal booze and scam artists were found all over town in the 1920s and early 1930s.

It appears that after the oil boom, that lasted up to the 1950s, much of the usually itinerant oilfield riff-raff decided to make Levelland their permanent home, and some are genetically inclined to keep their traditions.

LOL. The Dukes and Boss Hog are innocent children compared to the cops in Levelland. They say fact is stranger than fiction (i.e., the fictional Dukes of Hazard), and Levelland and Hockley County prove it.

i heard Dave Kinney is going around telling people he is innocent and is planning a press meeting at the gazebo tomorrow. I don't think he has a lawyer bc if he did his lawyer would advise against this. I think Dave has finally lost it.

I'm just going to cut and paste my last remark from that other forum so I don't have to type so long.It must really be hard on you being around people that aren't as classy as you. I really really take offense at your comments about Levelland. We have our problems, that's for sure, but your wording "everybody" really floored me! I don't have a pit bull, I have a chiuahua, three of them. I don't live in a trailer, I live in a 200,000 brick house with a "cement pond" and everything. It's not even close to my parents house. I always pay by bills, and sometimes, other peoples as well. My pants even reach the ground, I have no holes in my jeans. My daughter is a college student, her 4th year in fact, I pay for that as well. My son is in his second year of college, I pay for that as well. I pay my taxes, I give to my church. I don't live on welfare, nor have I ever taken gov. money. I send my kids to school, my son wants to be a preacher, my daughter will teach political science soon at a university. I don't have any "cock fights" in my yard, but I do have a sign that says "welcome friends". I know alot of people that live in trailer houses in their parents backyards, they are on food stamps because the oil field layed them off. They are hard workers, I don't consider them any "less" of a person because they drink beer and I drink wine, they go to McDonalds and I go to more upscale resturants and pay with credit cards that I might one day get out of debt from. I don't know how you know that cops are sleeping around unless you've been there and done that. The things I talk about are from PERSONAL experience, not rumors. There are many many indictments in Levelland thats true, but you go back and look at how many were plea bargained out and how many were actually taken to court. Your remarks offend me personally because my husband happens to urinate in the yard. I paid 200,000 for this house, we will urinate wherever we like. You sound like a biggot.

And one more thing. My husband is part of that oilfield rifraf. Everything you have is made in part from that oil. Your couch, your cell phone, everything that is plastic can be linked back to oil. The comforts that surround you, the tires you drive on, the car that youre able to drive, without the oilfield, the luxuries you rely on would not exist. The next time you see a person of the oilfield rifraf, you otta shake his hand.

Last time I checked being a biggot wasn't illegal, but exposing yourself is illegal, no matter how much you paid for your house. Are you entitled because you have money? That sounds like an elitist mentality & that your above the law. Oh, and tell your husband thanks for all he does.

Mr.Obvious, I think you better read that again, I was responding to someone else saying that levelland is full of no tax paying idiots who live on welfare, It was my intention to say that wasn't true and to also say that if someone is on welfare or live in trailer houses, that person should not automatically believe they are scum. I'm sorry if I came across the way you thought. I am neither an elitist nor above the law. My family is not rich, nor am I, I was trying to say that the guy "wakingupinlevlland" shouldn't judge. My apologies.

Got it. Stereotypes & gross generalizations. We all fall prey to it much like the statements about the "hockley court house", the DA, and Kevin Davis.

You know what, I'm just gonna get off this forum. It makes me too mad. I don't like what is going on in Levelland, it scares me that people you believe in can just be thrown away along with their jobs. Lots of people are going to be hurt by this, and I don' think this is the end. I don't dislike Kevin Davis, he seemed very nice when I met him. I like the court house, it needs more parking spaces and the decor could be updated. I was just speaking my personal thoughts because this was a forum to do so. The SO was always there when my family needed them. They also put some of my family in jail, they deserved it because they broke the law. I do not break the law, that does not mean I am above the law, I just abide by them. I don't even speed. I raise my children right, that does not make me an elitist. Really I don't even know that that means to tell u the truth. I just speak frim personal experiences.

No need to leave, but you will be asked on ocassion to justify and back up what and why you believe what you believe. Dazed I believe you when you say that the SO's office was kind to you, but I & others are asking you to objectively look at the situation. Because of your past experiences which I belive are real, as you say, I believe your views are tainted and skewed. That's all. Glad your here. Keep asking questions, but be prepared to back up your speculations. Don't take it too personally.

I have never once said that the investigation into the drug dealings were not called for, I have always said that if there was a crime, they should do the time. I have always agreed my views are tainted on the court house, I even called myself bitter. I never said Davis wasn't the man for the job, but I believe the public should have the right to vote on that when the time comes, I think all these people that are griping about everything should go out and vote, thats why we are in the situation we are in now, everyone always looked the other way. also, I can back up what I believe and why I believe it, without personal information you would not understand why I am bitter, but something in the past affected my family horribly, and that did leave me bitter, I can get over it, someday, but I wouldn't wish what we went thru on my worst enemy. I do believe the justice system fails children.

I don't believe Hockley Co. is the only one that fails children. So many out there are failed everyday and live in fear and poverty because of that. The drug situation doesn't make me as mad as the child abuse, because like I said, if they did the crime, they'll do the time, if they are prosecuted correctly. I do also believe that everyone that is on drugs isn't a bad person, they make wrong choices that lead to bad behavior. But those accused have a voice, they have rights, children do not. They can't speak for themselves. I believe if we want to stop the drug problem, it starts with the way we raise our kids, the morals we instill, then maybe 10 years down the road Levelland wont be in such high demand for drugs and there wont such high supply.
