I would like to hear from anyone who has had a problem with Hickman County High School Principal Philip Jacobs or anyone having a problem with Director of Hickman County Schools Jerry Nash.

What kind of problems are you looking for? Problems with employer/employee relations? Or student/parents problems & complaints? Or how educational money is spent? Please be specific with the problems you are looking for.

There may be problems in all those areas. I'm just wondering if anyone is willing to speak out about any of those things.

Employees will not talk because they enjoy gainful employment. Unless you know someone (I mean realllllly know them) you probably will not have much luck in getting someone to talk. Look at the discussion under tenure teachers fired and you might something you are looking for. You might try putting a mailing address on here and ask for annonymous letters. Students know a lot but they will not talk to someone they don't know. Happy hunting!

I get the feeling you are right. Let's hope someone will open up on this forum and let us know about some of their problems. It's the only way we can change things and get it stopped.

Take a day and knock on some resident's doors that live on the road behind the new soccer field-Hassell Ck. Road. They can fill your ear full about recent problems. The fired teachers of last spring might have some complaints.

Thanks for your ideas - I will be taking a look at those things.

There was a lot of friction between a County Commissioner Keith Nash and Director Nash 3 or 4 years ago over the school budget that resulted in frozen school funds. It was in the local paper and the State audit covered the details.

Thank you for your insight. I have spoken to a few people but I get the impression that people are afraid to speak when there is a problem. It seems that freedom of speech is being stifled. When people fear their own public representatives it is a sad state of affairs and it will never end unless people stand up and speak out. Would people speak out at a town meeting with the media present??

What needs to be changed is Tn. Educational Law which lawfully grants so much authority (hiring, firing, transfer of positions) to the Superintendent of Schools and his/her administration. This position needs to be put back to the voice and vote of the people. Town Hall meeting? Most likely a waste of time, money & effort.

You are correct. Too much power has given them the idea they can do as they please no matter who it impacts. Students and teachers are the ones who ultimately suffer. The welfare and education of the children should come first but it seems power and money have gone to some people's heads. How long can parents and teachers remain silent???

I'm divorced and have children in the school system there. In talking to people who live there it seems the system is not being run with the best interests of the students in mind and a lot of people tend to blame Nash and Jacobs for decisions that are questionable. One problem is people seem to be scared to talk publically. Something's
not right.

I have been reading over this website for two weeks now and it seems to me the people of Hickman County need to clean house if everything I am reading and hearing is true. I rarely see a comment where anyone is praising a public official in Hickman County.

You have to realize that Hickman County Board of Education is the largest employer in the county with over 500 poeple employees. Dr. Nash has the highest paying govement job in Hickman county and can fire at will no ones is safe. He goes to one of the largest churchs in town along with Jacobs. So speaking is out is not an option for people when their jobs are at risk. There are no jobs to be had and if you lose your job for standing up for your self you are shuned by the people he employes along with their families so just think 500 people can easly turn into 5000 people. Be careful what you ask for.

Thanks for your insight. I do understand what you are saying but it sure is a sad state of affairs when officials who are working with taxpayer money think they are invincible and their power is out of control. The county is in poor shape and the people running the show don't seem to care and the people of the county seem helpless to do anything.
