How can the village and our idiot board turn this down? The offer of 1 million cash to build a jail which already exists in the Village? This is a no brainer. The village is broke, yet they continue to spend money to fight against the jail, spending our hard earned money for lawyers. A fight they will eventually loose anyways, remember the workers comp lawsuit, that went well didn't it?

What the board is doing seems totally irresponsible, playing politics above their sworn duty. They are sworn to look out for all residents, not just a few that live in the very northeast section of the village.

The funds that the county offers could pay off some debt, allow the village to stabilize and maybe not raise the taxes as much.

How about the couple hundred thousand dollars the County IDA still owes the Village for Quackenbush's past water bills?

Option #4 no fcking way.

Notice the county is pretending to be generous by "offering" money for the sewer hookup. Anybody who wants a new connection has to pay and the County is no different.

This is a bluff by the Legislature because they know they have no legal standing and are about to lose their court case against the Village.

This sounds like the deal we made when selling the power plant. Also, I'm not sure Mr. Bono is authorized to make that deal. More politics.

You people live in lala land, join the real world, look around you. The Village of Herkimer is has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Someone needs to start running this village like a business. Not on personal feelings and politics.

"Go to hell Mr. Bono"?, thats the attitude that will sink this village. Walk down Main St, yeah we're booming! Nothing will ever go to that PC site, how many years has it been vacant, what was there couldn't survive.

Your wrong, the village will loose this lawsuit, you can't enact a law after the fact, there is case law all over the country. The village also can't support the assertion that it can't handle the sewage load. The was much heavier load back in the 70's and 80's. The village also agreed to supply sewer to the Lowes Plaza, which is only a fraction of what is was due to be.

Hope the board is very happy when the state steps in to control their finances.

Hey genius Lowes pays taxes the county does not. Bedtime for Bono has to realize you don't threaten and sue a village because they are going bankrupt from all the property coming off the tax rolls. Between the retards, IDA, and the county who's left to pay the bill? The county offer is so little actually a few dollars less than what anyone else would pay for hook up. Now where's the benefit. This village needs to say no and stand their ground!

Wow, riddled with poor grammar. I don't even know where to begin.

The Village will "loose" the lawsuit? Lets try lose and that would be incorrect. There is no legal precedent forcing any municipality to provide or extend services to any new entity. None. Bono and the County Attorney know this and know their lawsuit will fail. This is more Bono preaching from the Bully Pulpit pretending to be "helping" the village when he would just as well have nothing to do with them.

I get the feeling Bono and the Legislature have put up these offers as a bluff. They probably know they are about to lose their court case and put out the olive branch instead. Not only that, but how long ago did they put the offers forth and haven't heard a response back from anybody with the Village? The article makes it seem like just today these offers were made. Perhaps the Mayor and Board need some time to digest it, as well as consult with the Village Attorney?

Here's where you can begin...shut the F-up.

I've noticed whenever some loser assaults a writer’s spelling/grammar it's simply because they're losing the argument and your argument was lost before you started.

Herkimer is getting a jail.

If I had my way the county would move the jail to another site whereby sticking the village with the P&C property. I understand the current owners of the P&C property are going belly-up. This possible scenario would leave the village a disgusting piece of property that no one wants and an environmental cleanup situation they can not begin to afford.

"Olive branch?"...The village needs a heavy chain and a tank to pull themselves out of the hole they're in.

The Legislature put things on the table long ago. As for the lawsuit here's the final outcome...win or lose the village loses.

It goes beyond poor grammar and I am winning the argument for the Village.

The Village already has a jail.

The environmental issues have already been addressed and will not be the responsibility of the Village.

Take your own advice and shut it....

Bono has not helped his cause by this recent round of frantic activity.Perception is he is desperate, contrary to his self protrayl of "soldier of peace". "Speak softly and carry a big stick", may be the approach to use in foreign policy, but it is not intended or going to work to intimidate residents of the Village of Herkimer.
Any action prior to the legal outcome of the lawsuits is just poor judgment and a slap in the face to those Bono professes to hold out an olive branch too. Why file lawsuits then, waste and misappropriations of funds!
If he truely wants to prove that he is willing to discuss this issue for mutual benefit of the county and Village of Herkimer, drop the current suit, and start talking.
This won't happen becuase the only way the GOB operates is their way or nothing, and with a self precieved loaded deck.
Their "Bluff" is being called!

Consider the timing of these latest offers and the pending decision within the month. You think these are "good faith" offers? Nope. Bono et al know they will not get a favorable ruling. These new offerings are a joke.

Not that the Village is without fault because they probably should have taken the deal from the County regarding the wastewater system last year. Not matter what though, any deal has to include money for the new sewer hook up that anybody else would also have to pay. It is not prime commercial real estate and it is time the Village accept that.

What part of NO doesn't Bono get. I listened to him on channel 99 last night when he told the legislature what he had offered the village. He wouldn't even allow them to ask a question. Incredible. He hit that gavel more last night than I've ever scene. They better check the condition of the desk. It was funny how when he wanted to let his buddies talk and he'd say he normally didn't allow that but would this one time and he did it many times for his buddies. But when the guys from Herkimer try to question him, he says he won't let them. He is so full of himself. For a little guy from Frankfort, he sure is full of himself. Wallace was a nut case. One of the guys tried to talk about the nursing home and Wallace went off on him. And what did Bono do? He hit his hammer and told the guy to move on. No comment on Wallace's screaming behavior. These guys are jokes. No wonder Herkimer county is such a joke. They might not have a budget crisis like the village, but they don't want anything good for the county either. They let the jail crumble and the nursing home fall apart. They gave away hospice. They gave away the health department. They just won't go away. Don;t let them push around Herkimer.
