45,000 working folks are fighting to save the American Dream right now—and It demonstrates the greed or the rich and corporations

Last year Verizon made $12 billion in profits,(1) got $1 billion in subsidies, and paid $0 in taxes.(2) But rather than sharing the profits with the working people who make the company successful, Verizon is demanding that their workers take pay and benefit cuts of $20,000 a year.(3) This is at the same time that their four top executives have pocketed over $258 million in the past four years.(4)

But these workers are fighting back with the only tool left in their arsenal. They're striking to keep Verizon from killing the American dream for middle class families.(5)

This strike gets right to the core of what we're fighting for: good jobs for working families. We need to show Verizon that the country is watching, and we're disgusted with their greed and mistreatment of the men and women who built their company.

When it comes to putting corporate bonuses over decent living wages, Verizon's behavior is unfortunately all too common. But because Verizon's workers are in a union, they have the means to fight back. But they need the help of Verizon's customers if they're going to shame Verizon into coming back to the negotiating table.

So make sure they hear you loud and clear. If we let Verizon know that their unfair treatment of workers is damaging the goodwill of potential customers, we can pressure them to come to the table and bargain in good faith.

So, lets look at what the union wants. FREE healthcare? 99% of companies ask the employees to kick in ( from a UNION article ). Lifetime pension? Heard of GM? What sank them? Oh, lifetime pension and free healthcare! Vz is asking the union workers to accept what the non-unionized workers get. But I say let the union walk, and let's put up a big banner with two words: Job Fair. And take the best 30,000 ( not 45K ) that apply. Somehow standing in the rain, putting your 12 year old child in the street to block a "scab" worker from drving his truck, sabotaging equipment and using squirt guns full or urine just don't seem as attractive, do they? Get a clue people.

Actually it's the strikers who sabotage Verizon plant year round attempting to generate overtime hours they have an unwieldy sense of entitlement to. Sometimes it's fix one wire break one wire. Sometimes it's turn equipment off and on real fast causing a tech to be sent out to fix it on overtime.

Verizon is decades behind full and trouble free deployment of FIOS or fiber because a lot of technicians unnecessarily fiddled, fumbled, meandered or flat out sabotaged the existing copper plant-especially before 9-11. Thank the last generation predivestiture technicians for delaying deployment of fiber so they could get their overtime on outdated and under maintained copper plant. Thank the last generation Ma Bell techs for contaminating several generations of there after.
