Sooo, it was is the paper.... If you didn't know. It's your own fault. Shut up. They didn't try to hide anything. It was wrong, but they did it the right way

what do you mean, it was in the paper. the village did the bare minimum required to inform residents of the plan to increase the mayors term from two to four years. it placed a "legal notice" which nobody reads in the classified section of the paper.

any moron even you knows that is no way to inform the public of an important decision such as increasing the mayoral term. all they had to do was call the Telegram and say, "Hi I'm the Mayor of Mohawk and the Village Board is considering increasing my term, can you do a news story?"

and the Telegram would have done a story and everyone would have know and mohicans would have had an informed debate.

so you're argument that the village "put it in the pape" is a crock of poop. the village -- the mayor the board and the clerk -- took a sneaky underhanded way to increase the term. they did it completely the WRONG way, by pulling a fast one.

I agree it was wrong... They were sneaky and were trying to hide it. However they did do everything that was required by law to do... That's all I'm saying. They met the minimum standards for informing the public.... Very sneaky though... That mayor needs to leave. Pronto.

a 4 yr term is a dumb idea. what's the advantage? it could actually deter potential candidates. not everyone is willing to commit the next four years of their life to running the village of mohawk.

it's a lot of work and responsibility and it pays what, a whole $5000 a year.

and, you can get stuck with some knucklehead mayor like the clown John Stephens we have in Ilion

on the other side, what's the disadvantage to a 2 year term? it's not like the mayor needs to spend six months and thousands of dollars on a political campaign.

no advantage to 2 year term at all, and a hush-hush underhanded way to pass a law! I don't recall any talk at all about this back in 2008 and I should know. it was all kept on the Q-T.

this is the Watergate of Mohawk!

It's not like anyone has run against her in the last 10 or so years..whether a 2 year or 4 year term. Hell, people don't even vote. There's an election every year for at least 1 trustee. Trustees are elected for 4 year term, why not the mayor? Just saying.

On January 15,2008 an article written by Eric Monnat- Telegram Staff Writer was published: "Mohawk board votes to change mayoral term". Basically it states that the board voted to enact Local Law 4 of 2007 at Monday's night board meeting to change the mayor's term from 2 years to 4 years. The decision would be subject to permissive referendum, which means residents could file petitions to bring the issue to a vilage wide vote. The article goes on to explains the board's reason for doing this. The village attorney was present at this meeting & said that if a petition was filed, residents would be able to vote on it rather than the board voting for it. They would have 30 days to file after the legal notice appeared in the Telegram within the next 10 days. For those who don't believe this, I found it in the Evening Telegram archives. January 15, 2008. So anyone can check it out.

I think the problem is apathy. Most people don't care until they feel it will cost them money or if the mayor/BOT has done something to "step on their toes" or it could just be a personal dislike for the mayor and or BOT member & want to get others going. At least that is the conclusion I've come to. Whether right or wrong, it's just my personal opinion & not meant to cause a big controversy.

don't forget, this is the same Mayor and Board that has!:

-- Allowed the Little Caesar to parade little snot-nosed peckerheads with their colorful signs advertising the WORLDS CRUMMIEST PIZZA all over downtown introducing the Risk of motorist distraction and a consequential accident which would surely set the Little Ceasar into re-assessing his reckless buisness practices and exploitation of our Youth!

-- Allowed a shameful HEAD SHOP peddling Marijuana-smoking paraphernalia right in its front windows for the inspection of our Curious and Impressionable Youth to locate right in the middle of the Village, also promoting to our Children tobacco-smoking (Cigarettes) while adorning its building facade with lurid Red Neon lights that make it look like a BROTHEL!

-- Allowed the village Pool to CLOSE permanently it appears thereby depriving our Youth of the opportunity to learn essential Swimming skills not to mention the assemblage of happy Childhood Memories and introducing the risk that in the future some of our Children who do not know how to Swim because the Village and School closed the Pool will drown in Canadarago Lake (or another body of water!)

maybe if the Mayor and Board put as much energy into addressing such major problems as outlined above as they did in shoo'ing through this mayor term then our once proud Village of Mohawk would not be going to hell in a handwagon!

I'll give you the head shop... That's dumb..

But i am so sick of the whining about little ceasers and the pool....shut up. I bet you or your kids never went to the pool anyways, unless you used the pool as a babysitting service like the rest of the douchebag lowlifes.

And further more....

how many people on here ever go to the board meetings or spend time voulenteering on a board?
if you want to bitch that is the place to do it.we complain about no new buissness in mohawk yet when they come people try to chase them out.maybe someone on here should have bought lps and invested thousands of dollars to clean it up and then sat twiddling your thumbs waiting for people to come.as far as the mayor goes get off your butts and run if you think the job is that easy.its alot easier to sit on here and complain about someone else.

you sound like one of those HARCsters who like to suck their Thumb after sticking it in their butt-hole for 20 minutes.

tell me, name ONE other valley Business that regularly parades sign-wavers outdoors (not your occasional Booster Club car wash) where they can distract traffic and jeopardize Public Safety.

just ONE Valley Business, i'm waiting for the name....

... still waiting, and will be waiting a long time because the Little Caesar is the ONLY guy Contemptuous enough of Public Safety and the Dignity of our Youth to do it!!!!

Mohawk Mom...the village did NOT close the pool, that choice was taken out of their hands by the school district. The pool was school and not village property. The school had the expense of keeping it maintained, the village only staffed it through the rec commission. Not happy with some of the things going on the village myself, but let's be fair and place the blame where it belongs.
