Protesters fight Love Stuff store

Full story: The Courier-Journal

I think as a result of this (protest), some people are avoiding going into the business. A group of residents from Oldham, Henry and Trimble counties has been protesting in front of a Pendleton store that sells adult material, hoping to shut it down. via The Courier-Journal

there is a quite simple solution if you don't like the store. DON"T GO IN IT. nobody is making these people go into the store. there is nothing suggestive on the out side of the store that their children ciukd see. I personally think its great that Henry co. has an ADULT book store. Instead of those who are more adventurous in their sex like going to Louisville or Frankfort or where ever to buy what they need. They can spend there money right there at home.

I agree with Jennifer. Number one, its suppose to be a free country. They sale guns and whiskey down the street, these kill.
Plus, just turn on your television, or the INTERNET, first we must shut these down. Porn is in your house, on your television.

Property values drop, yet these places are more than likely in the towns or the city. We need to stop this mentality of being perfect when we are clearly not.
Freedom is about choices, and respecting everyones legal right to express this.

Go protest the cable and the INTERNET and the gun shops and the porn shops, and the bars and the liquor stores. Really, when does it end, when we all become Amish?

If I recall, its freedom for everyone, not just what a few believe, thats dictatorship!!!

Years ago I worked in this building when it was Citgo, Grandma's Kitchen. Then it was taken over by Davis Brothers, since then, Speedway opened across the street from the place and the gasoline business was to move out of this building. The building remained vacant and the property was beginning to look bad. But think about it, the proprietor of this business is taking care of the building and keeping the property neat. Which would you rather have? A vacant delipated building with property overgrown with weeds where people would go to council and complain about the so called eye sore or would you rather see a business in that building and someone taking care of it and the property around it?
Granted that people don't like it being there but legally the store has every right to be where it is at. Years ago the churches and neighbors have gone to court over this issue and because the store isn't within the vicinity of a church or a school, the proprietor had every legal right to establish the business. I have been in the store myself and looked the place over and the building is being well cared for. As for the merchandise, I will not comment on. The reason I went in is for cigarettes for a friend at work who was smoking butts from company ash trays. Since the store is in a convenient location, I purchased cigarettes for my friend so he doesn't catch anything by smoking second hand cigarette butts. The store sells cigarettes and cigars at competitive prices and there are some family friendly movies there too. But like one poster said, if you don't like the place, don't go in. I observe the place daily and have found that once the protestors leave, the parking lot is packed!

I personally don't have need for pornographic material. The issue here is quite interesting because I had studies in business law. One of the key questions I have is what the protestors are doing. Is this protest an illegal protest because they are trespassing on private property and harassing patrons by taking their photo and posting it on their website? Whenever I see the protesters, I feel uptight because I feel there maybe illegal activity taking place and infringement on the rights of law abiding citizens who wish to go in for other reasons besides for Love Stuff. I wouldn't be surprised to see a vehicle on the outside of the place saying, "Thanks for the free advertising, we have been very busy!"

I do not know about the laws in Henry County, but a group in Louisville was doing the same thing to several of the adult bookstores and strip clubs, and the chief of police said that they were not breaking any laws by taking pictures of the patrons as they entered or left the establishments. If you have noticed, the protesters are not actually on Love Stuff's property. There is a 25' easment that runs in front of the property that is owned by the state. As far as taking pictures is concerned, if you are in a public place going into a public establishment, then you can not assume any right to privacy, therefore they can legaly take your picture without breaking any laws. I wish they were breaking some kind of law so they would leave the hard working individuals, that patronize these establishments, alone. I am a truck driver and was parked across the street at the Pilot today, and these nutcases were across the street taking photos of anyone who turned into the driveway. That building used to be a truck stop and still has a whole lot of needed truck parking. They were taking pictures of each and every truck that went in there, even if it was only to park because the Pilot was full. This is absolutely beyond rediculous. I actually went up to them and had a converation with them about what they were doing to see if I could make them understand that not eveyone is there to go buy porn. What I walked away with was that these people are a bunch of religious fanatics who are trying to shove there beliefs down everyones throat. I agree with evryone else... If you dont like the store, don't go in. But, Leave the rest of us ALONE!!!!

I live in Henry County and I have visited Love Stuff a few times myself...I think it is a great place for couples that want that extra help in their relationships...Eve did get Adam to take the bite from the apple right... So why not blame her... If there wasnt a thing called sex then none of us would be in this world... Right??? As for taking pictures of people coming in and out of there.. isnt there some law saying you have to have that persons permission to post their pic.... a release.. I do know that I have to sign one every year for the school systems to show my children in a pic or video that they may use.. So can these people that have their pics taken not take action against them... I would love for them to be outside when I go inside... They would honestly turn around and leave when I was done... Every one that visits these places are not bad people... They just like the spice brought into their lives.. Maybe you should get the cob out of your butt and try it...

I think the store itself is OK. The old man that runs it kind of creeps me out.
I understand that Not all people are into that kind of store. & if they are not then they don't need to go in. But there is nothing wrong with where the store is located; and nothing wrong or visual from the outside of the building.
It's Human nature for people to have SEX. And if you are of age ( not sure if it is 18 or 21 to get in the store ) then so be it, if that is what you want to do and do behind closed doors at your home.

I live about a 2 minute walk from the Love store. I'm not against sex shops and don't mind it being there. The issue I have is it's got a TALL(looks like a mile hight) large lighted sign that you can see for miles around. I moved from another area which had a similar store but it's sign said adult book store. My 6 year old didn't even ask to about it because the sign said adult book store. But with the HUGE lighted sign that says Love my son, now 8 wants to know why he can't go into a store about Love. Love is good.

Yeah, it's not an issue a parent can't or shouldn't talk about with his kids but such a HUGE lighted sign forces the conversation a little early if you ask me.

I thought the sign was bad enough but a couple months ago the removed it and put up an even worse sign.

I say just replace the current sign with a less conspicuous one.

I have been in there many times with my husband and a close friend of mine. This place is awesome! It is very well stocked and has a very inviting/clean atmosphere. I see nothing wrong with having a place to shop at for adult items which has a big variety, professional atmosphere, and no pressure being there.
If you are one of those people whom thinks it is wrong to have such a place- I firmly believe that you as a human are denying yourselves of an opportunity to explore what can be an amazing addition to your sexual experiences.

You only halfto be 18 to go in to the store. im 20yr and have been in to it quite a few times its a realy great place. aside from sex toys and outfits they have other things as someone else posted they sell cigarettes and cigars, movies and jewelry. and even if you are goin in to spice up your sex life its your choice! but you dont need asses standing outside protesting and taking pics and yellin at you that your doin wrong or something in the eyes of god... we dont stand outside there church or there homes protesting why should they do it to this store.

TO THE PROTESTERS: wake the F*ck up! im sure you go home and sleep with your wife or husband! and im sure you want to do something to spice it up everyonce in a while. well we do something about it im sorry you dont. hell even a preacher cant say he dosnt sleep with his wife. nobody knows what they do behind closed doors.

i guess what im tryin to say is were all the same church goer or not we all still think about it or do it were not diffrent were the same as you so quit treating us diffrently.(and maybe embrace your dirty thoughts and go in the damn store) if not o well get away from it.

personaly i think there all broke and just stand outside to see what people come out with so they can look at what there not getting...

What do have a 8, 9, or 10th grade education? You can't even spell almost every time you answer. Is it that way when you talk? Why don't you let someone on here that can hold an intelligent conversation. That means - a smart person.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Cancer

You feel the urge to move onward, powered by your wisdom: when you're right, you're right. You may feel that any further explanation is unnecessary, but the people you're dealing with might need it spelled out for them. Take the time to draw a picture or use smaller vocabulary words to get your point across, Cancer. A public demonstration will probably prove to be the last word on the subject.
