What else would you expect? No one wants the problems that are in Harlem to spill over to us in Clewiston. I don't think it is a race thing but a lifestyle thing.

I think taking extra precautions during crowded events is a good thing...for any area. The extra racism in your comment is irrelevant and uncalled for.

Sir no disrespect to you but it is evident that you never felt or lived to see what racism is. I was born and raised in Clewiston. My parents have talked about the racism since I was a small child. I as an adult have felt the racism and discrimination since I was a child. We have been having Brown Sugar Festivals for many many years. They are so jealous that they decided to have a Sugar Festival to take revenue from the Brown Sugar Festival. They just hate to see black people prosper. They like the idea of blacks being oppressed. I counted 5 different counties that were there to assist Hendry County Sheriff department "ridiculous". Swat teams on every corner absurd. This is just a work of God to allow the world to see that racism is live in Clewiston, Florida.

My parents, family and friends have worked for U.S. Sugar Corporation for many, many, many years and the people of Harlem are dying from cancers do to poisons that are buried by "you" people. I have had a parent, uncles, cousins and friens succumb to disease because of U.S. Sugar and every advocate or attorney that attempts to fight agains U.S Sugar has come up missing or found dead. You people recruit young black men from Clewiston High School but thank God there are many play pro sports and get out.

Heed my word your days are numbered and all those that have participated in the death of many innocent black will pay for their dirty deeds in the end.

you should check your history brown sugar festival
was here way before the sugar festival was ever thought about. and not like the sugar festival were you white folks walk around drunk all day. the police don,t mess with all because they be drunk with you all. Iwas at your festival and what I seen was the 18 year getting drunk with mom out in the open. walking around drunk . brown sugar is supported by the poeple in harlem. the city of clewiston don,t give a nothing but high lights bill. you all have the same problem in clewiston and your problems are worst it is just you all keep it in the dark but it will come to light keep your potshaeds out off harlem. we did not ask the police to come in our town harlem. this is the just another way the white man is trying to keep black down . brown sugar bring in more money to clewiston fl the any other festival all the hotel are book even thought you white folks take the prices up. harlem is not a bad place to live our house look way better then most of house in clewiston. and for the people of clewiston that in no racism in clewiston just stop.
brown sugar is here to stay and for white people who think they are going to keep treating us like this . the will stand up and fight.WE are not afraid of you all.

i think it's absoulutely ridiculous how they had to portray harlem. harlem is a good community to raise children. but yet its people are prejudice against our small haven. There was no helicopter or police from lee, charlotte ect that had to come and "protect & serve" at the sugar festival.. so why us?

Many years ago, I resided in Clewiston and participated in the Sugar Festivals held each year. I never saw a drunk white man and we never had SWAT teams on every corner. Perhaps "Behavior" learned at home, precluded these events and the SWAT teams were not needed. With only 4 Police Officers on the Clewiston Police Dept way back then, it's a wonder that we were able to survive the celebration. By the way, what is a Brown Sugar celebration ? Is that like Miss Black America or Jet magazine No Whites allowed.?

Back in the seventies when race was an issue, things were better than they are today between races because there was not so much drugs that there are today and white or black, people looked out for each other. Get rid of the IDIOTS and things will be fine.

Because the Sugar Festival does not have the issues that Brown Sugar does. Sorry I have been to both and yes I am white. But the whole time I was at the Brown Sugar I saw people drinking left and right, smoking weed right in front of everyone and tons of fights. These issues do not take place at the Sugar Festival so there is not logical reason to compare one against the other. Now if the protection was not there and a riot broke out or some one was killed then who would you blame.

Everyone knows kaffirs cannot have any sort of gathering without mayhem! Law enforcement was wise to have a show of force and the town will be better off without this so called 'festival.'

well we are not surprised, they build Harlem to keep us under lockdown, poor and unhappy. But like during slave days we always prevail no matter what. Since they dont hear from us they had to comecheck why we are so happy. They got their new slaves now,let them enjoy each other, but we hear since they all look alike colour wise they cant blame it on God.

I can't believe what is going on! We must stand up as a people. Today, I just called to check on rates for hotels during the Brown Sugar Festival. Do you know that rates for the week in May is up over 50%.

However, to be sure there were no prejudices involved (typical of Clewiston), I checked the rates for the weekt of the Sugar Festival and so far their rates are almost the same.

Isn't this enough? First, Brown Sugar was established for many, many years and then it was decided they would have a Sugar Festival conveniently to occur right before the week of Brown Sugar Festival.

People it better stop! Those souls of yours has to end up somewhere for eternity (heaven or hell). I have witnessed before people on their death beds, wishing they had not mistreated people. Just a thought. IJS
