I think our Hendricks County Sheriffs dept. has become a politcal mess. Explain to me why it would be the best for the county to hire back a person who did not follow process and procedures. If the officers of our county can not respect the law how do you expect the citizens to respect them.

Best for the county or cronyism?

Why would the new sheriff of Hendricks County reinstate a former deputy dismissed with a lenthly record of violations by the merit board? Who do you think selected the new members of the merit board? This story smells like a dead fish! What the sheriff says is "best for the county" sounds like cronyism to me.

Ex deputy Matt McPeek's file says it all. Every Sheriff that Matt McPeek has worked under has had issues with him. Pretty serious issues I might add. It is all documented in the records. He has no business with a gun or badge. This tort clain was pre-planned before his hearing, he does not stand a chance winning that tort claim...they all know it! It is more like a payback favor and not a settlement. What they are doing is opening up alot of lawsuits by rehiring him. He is a liability not an asset to the county. Rehire a corrupt officer that was fired, voted out 5 out of 5 members? Yes, easy money for a person to win a lawsuit against the county first time he screw up. And he will. Ask yourselves what person would settle 1.6 million to be a cop? Hello!!!

Let them sue. If the prosecutor can't win such a weak case in favor of the county's taxpayers, his fitness for the position comes to question.

Sheriff Dave Galloway must have promised McPeek he would get his job back if he continued to campaign for him. McPeek's parents campaigned for Galloway and worked the polls for him. Galloway has made many political paybacks and is hurting the sheriff's department and the county. McPeek is a liability with four suspensions for lying and 38 disiplinary actions. I doubt if Galloway has even looked at McPeek's law suit since he said he hasn't looked at his disciplinary file either. Anyway, what juror would believe McPeek with his horrible record. The Good Ole Boy system is still alive.

What newly-elected sheriff in his right mind would support the re-hiring of a previously fired deputy without having researched his background? McPeek's tort claim certainly appears to have been a bargaining chip that would make it easy for Galloway to re-instate him while making it look as if he had no choice. He had to save the county the county some money? Apparently, you can put a price on the safety and well-being of the citizens of Hendricks County! Should McPeeks legal action actually proceed to trial, wouldn't it be deemed frivolous? What judge will override a unanimous merit board decision? I hope Galloway's new appointees don't take their position very seriously, because it apparently is nothing more than a figurehead position, something everyone can point to and say that there is accountability in the sheriff's department. Yeehaw, Good Ol' boys!

The last two people that made comments clearly do not know this man. You have no clue who he really is. He should have been an actor. I believe any of his three or four wives would all agree. Split personality, ego maniac, compulsive liar, thief, woman abuser, not to mention only dates little girls that can't fend for themselves. Heard he got a girl 20 years old pregnant. He's in his mid forties or so. This guys is SICK! Google his history, speaks for itself. Also court records don't lie.

Sounds like 100% bs to me. I checked the civil and criminal court records for this dude. One civil record for his suit against the man who fired him. Zero criminal filings. As for the other stuff, sounds like he's a dog. BTW 20 is over the legal age of 16.
