Me too. From the picture, that looks to be a pretty darn bad wreck.

My family lives off 23-74 and the traffic on this road has increased over the last 10 years. The speed limit is 55 but most drivers ignore it. I worry for my family's saftey all the time.

I've seen a lot of debris on the roads this past week. Last week there was a sheet of corrugated metal on 240 near the Haywood Road exit. The DOT truck in front of me slowed, swerved, then kept going. I pulled over and moved it to the other side of the guard rail. The DOT behind me gave me a thumb's up. Today I moved a "highway gator" off of 74 outside of Shelby that was causing a slowdown.
I should go on the DOT payroll as someone has to move that mess off the road.

Prayers out to the families.:(

It's a poor design. The sightlines seem to be on an interstate highway scale, so people feel comfortable driving 60-70 mph, but access is unlimited, so any driveway can enter directly into the highway. This stretch between Sylva and Waynesville has seen quite a few fatalities over the years.

I was having a quiet morning sitting at my desk at Cruise Control Travel when all of a sudden atleast 10 emergency vehicles came flying by. I looked out the door to see a horrible mess less than 1/2 mile down the road. I am so sorry for all the family members left behind. I'll keep you in my prayers.

We passed the scene of this accident this morning around 1130 while en route home to Blacksburg Va. from Cherokee. I have been involved in fire and rescue in the past and I can tell you this is by far the most serious-looking accident I have ever seen. The small car was actually cut into several pieces. Seats in one location, part of the car in another and the trunk and rear of the car in a 3rd. Tragic is not a fair word to describe the scene. Incredibly sad and horrifying.

Nobody gives a shit about the speed limits anymore and there seems to be no one enforcing them anymore.

This is so awful. It makes you appreciate how fortunate you are to still be living when the same accident could have happened to any of us.

Is there a median barrier through there, i.e. guardrail or cable?

"A trooper on the scene said the car may have been swerving to avoid debris in the road."

The driver would not have been able to slow down
in time for fear what was riding his A$$.

This is one accident that could have been prevented.

Sympathies to the family.

The median may be a cement island. But I do not this it is a barrier.

Definitely no aluminum guardrail or cable.
