Let me get this straight, people are ticked off because, people serving legal documents, are making a load of money? Tell you what, you want the job, go ahead and apply for it. I can not imagine the fun of serving, divorce papers, and eviction notices to individuals and families. Not to mention, all the hostile people you have to deal with.

Bah...Blumenthal is just pissed they are making more than him.

Last I knew, this is America. If you work hard, do a good job, learn the system and make it work for you --- well, you can make a buck.

Realtors do it, lawyers, contractors, doctors, and marshals too, I guess.

There have been a few stories in several papers around the state since this rag published their salaries, there is surely no need for an editorial.

What we have learned in these stories is that the marshals fees are paid by whoever hired them, mostly lawfirms, not taxpayers.

Let me ask --- why do we care what they make so long that it is all legal and above board?

The federal system makes so much more sense. These parasites are milking our current system to overcharge for something that a teenager could do.

The fees are mandated by state statute - the marshals are only charging what the legislature says they can.

Let them continue the process and let's tax it 90%. We've done that to most other successful businesses in this state.

I just heard from Chris Dodd and he is "OUTRAGED!!".

He even had the red face and the fist clenched in the air. I think he means it this time.

The more interesting question is how does someone become a marshal in Connecticut. I would venture to bet there are a lot of political cronies in the system.

I looked into becoming a marshal a year or so ago, it starts with a test. There doesn't Seem to be any cronie-ism any longer. I think that's why they got rid of sherrifs a while ago, no?

I personally know one of the guys who makes less than $100k. I've heard stories of what he's had to put up with. I know he's been assaulted a few times this year already. How many of you have been assaulted multiple times this year while at work?

Is this the case with all marshals? Hopefully not, but it does happen to many of them.

For the most part, it's not our tax dollars making these guys rich. Anyone who's crying probably had papers served to them or is just plain jealous!

Hey Courant, while you're at it let's lobby for tort reform too! The present system encourages frivolous suits in which insurance pays out just to save the money to fight, even if the defendant is in the right. The present system is ruining our healthcare costs, car insurance costs, etc.

Start making the loser pay for the defendant's cost too. That will stop the frivolous suits.

Hound dog Blumy on the trail. Between the mortgage services and the marshalls I think he wants us to know he's 'On It.' There have been a few other occupations whereby it came to be noticed that some ppl were making way more than the average joe schmoe and therefore were investigated.

What I notice is that almost invariably no wrong doing was ever found, all they discovered is that these inviduals are working night and day and make this money.

However, the investigators do not go out of their way to alert the reporters AFTER the investigation is over that all they found out is that they ppl made the money honestly and by working extremely hard, so that their names are not publicly cleared of any doubt.

How come Conn Gas and electric utilties
all use the same lawyers for the past
fifty years or more? Most of them are really politically connected. Is this
why we have high rates? Will the atty gen look into this? Will the total cost of lawyers for a year be published?
Are lawyers protected unlike Marshalls?

Yes, let's get the government involved. Like everything else, especially when it comes to capitalism and private business.

There is very little left that the government does not control. This is not what our country was founded upon.

The government that governs best, governs least.

Oh please, this is a racket that has to be stopped. If the serving of legal papers were simply bid out to the private market, these people would never be earning six-figure incomes. Right now, a select few have been given by the state the privilege of being named "state marshals" and they get to earn six-figure incomes by driving around and handing out paper. The pay is high because the state is limiting the labor market. It's dangerous you say? So is being a tree doctor, lumberjack, taxi driver, police officer or fireman, but these folks make no where near the top earners among state marshals.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Capricorn

A certain person is strong-willed with the Full Moon in your emotional house of others. It's a lunar eclipse too, so this could lead to some ructions in which everyone becomes firmly entrenched in their own opinions and refuses to acknowledge anyone else's point of view. Get the arguments out of the way early on, so you can then concentrate on having a really enjoyable New Year's Eve.
