17-year-old to serve 10 years for manslaughter

There are 26 comments on the The South Mississippi Sun Herald story from Jan 24, 2008, titled 17-year-old to serve 10 years for manslaughter. In it, The South Mississippi Sun Herald reports that:

“Ten years in prison sounds bad for a 17-year-old, but it's a lot better than a life sentence.”

James Richard Lago, 'Jimmy' to family and friends, was only 16 when he stabbed 21-year-old Ryan Lee Williams to death.

But Lago 'made a man's decision,' said Circuit Judge Lisa Dodson as she sentenced him Monday on a guilty plea to manslaughter. Dodson imposed the maximum penalty of 20 years but suspended 10 years, leaving 10 to serve and three years' probation. She also ordered him to pay for Williams' funeral.

Lago, now 17, was charged with murder in Williams' slaying of Dec. 9, 2006, in Saucier. A Harrison County grand jury indicted him on the lesser charge of manslaughter. Lago was set for trial this week but changed his plea in a hearing that witnesses said was so emotional it brought tears to the eyes of strangers waiting for unrelated hearings. Read more

on top of occupantS saucier man since you know so much do you know one of the occupantS had to have held ryan back some time durring the fight in order to leave BRUISED HANDPRINTS on his forearms? no, you don't because you don't know all of the details because you only know what you are told, mostly rumors and assumptions. If jimmy was CHARGED and CONVICTED he DESERVES every bit of it OBVIOUSLY he was wrong. not saying ryan was right or a "saint" or a "hero" but even RYANS MOM says he wasn't a saint it was in the newspaper, quoted, from her, but i suppose you already know that since you know them so well. so you saucier man, are a joke.

"I agree with your post, not saucier man, he seems extremely ignorant, not just about ryan and his life but in general."

Your right I am no expert on Ryan. I only remember him walking in the turran road staring at me as I drove up thinking I should get out of my lane to drive around him... I did'nt drive around him or slow down.... Last time I saw him he was talking to to two harrison county detectives over lunch at chilis. I wander what that was all about? My comment about "met his mother" was an offhand smartass remark because she is.... so "not nice?"
No I don't live on Graff. You know me. I have never been afraid to walk my ass out in the street to talk to you either.... I am the guy that gets pissed when people break into his house and steal from him.... I honestly did'nt start posting here to badmouth a dead man. I started this to try and say that taking a 16 year old kid to prison for 10 years for stabbing a guy older than him who was using him as a drug dealer and attacking him in his house was not the solution. Now little "bitch ased jimmy"? as you call him will be 26 yo felon jimmy with no other occupation than he has learned thus far in life and will likely now cause more bad shit to happen. I feel Ryan is as if not more responsible for his death than Jimmy. It sucks he died and left his kids without a father. Since you care about him an his kids so much I hope that you will teach them how he died and not to front Meth to kids when they are older.....

and you are correct. I did not know about the bruises on him arms. Sound like the type of mark that one recieves when being held back by a stronger person that is trying to not injure him as apposed to puting those bruises on his neck...

10 years .. For defending your home?? My thought is.. If Ryan were so concerned w/ his family.. He should have been home.. He took a chance busting into someone's home.. I know if it had been my home.. And some person came into it uninvited.. and wished to cause me harm.. Bet your ass, somebody would meet the other end of whatever I could grab to protect myself. And you can bet your ass that if it had been your home or judge Dodsons home... Y'all would protect yourselves.. No matter what the reason he showed up for.. You don't just busy into someones home.. Make all the excuses you want.. At the end of the day you don't bust in somes home and start attacking people.. NOBODY is going to just sit back and watch and allow that to happen and not a single person can convince me otherwise. I understand that y'all are that guys friends/family but get real. And by her sentencing him to 10 years she's taking our right to protect our homes.
