What happened in Waveland?

Aug 21, 2011 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: WLOX-TV Biloxi

What happened in Waveland? How did the city nearly default on its bills? And why did it seem nobody knew the future of the police department was on life support until the chief got canned? We ask those questions, because we know Waveland residents are asking those questions.

Also noticed that Garcia opens mouth and inserts foot. So many of his statements do not make sense. Especially when he was talking about raising water bills and property taxes. Our tax mill to Waveland have not been increased but just a few years back property was reapraised giving more tax dollars to Waveland and increasing the taxes property owners pay. The statement that I can not take a salary reduction because I have a child in College. Citizens who are struggling have dependent children we are trying to support and send to grammer school.

to each and everyone of you that keeps wanting bay st. louis, to take over waveland, from the looks of it b.s.l. can hardly take care of themselves. seems like the councilmen are'nt too happy with the way things are going in the annexed area. thats exactally what they would do to waveland.

From the looks of it, you believe everything you read in the echo. Too bad it's ALWAYS biased and filled with wrong information. Don't believe it? Then attend a council meeting there and then read the next echo. And, You can count on Boudeen being unhappy with anything Les Fillingame says, thinks or does. Don't forget he funded Weems in a HUGE way and is a sore loser if there ever was one. He keeps Ponder and Welch in his pocket too, just read the echo articles welch writes. Go to a council meeting and you see and hear a completely different version of the crap printed in the echo. But tiquana if youre happy with the state of waveland, if you believe what garcia feeds you and if you'll be happier when you suddenly arent a city anymore, just another unincorporated town in hancock county, then more power to ya. Just dont complain down the road when you find yourself with NO services, expecially police and fire service, not to mention having water services and repairs. I dont hear anyone complaining about the FREE help BSL is giving us now with police & fire protection, but how long will that last?? ALl we have to do is CONTRACT those services with BSL for a few months, maybe a year. That doesnt' mean "take over" waveland. Tell me whats so terrible about that?? Call your insurance company and ask what your house insurance is about to go up to. After you do that, take a ride around BSL, then ride throughout waveland. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what a difference a responsible administration makes.

Blowey, you are absolutely right! I have been to the Bay meetings, and see J.R. Welch taking notes, but when I read his articles it is like he was at a different meeting.

Bay St. Louis is doing great, but I have noticed that Joey is always trying to complain about something. I have also noticed that he is like a puppet master. There is one guy in particular that he manipulates to do his bidding. I can never remember his name, but he lives in what used to be Joey's ward. He shows up at a meeting from time to time to complain, but you can tell that neither he nor Joey research anything, but always end up looking foolish.

I can't help but wonder why people keep electing him, because it doesn't seem like he pays attention. He never gets the facts right, and all he does is complain. I do believe that there is a lot of truth about the Joey/Welch connection. It seems like his articles are coming out of Joey's mouth (or Joey's boy). I don't even read an article anymore if Welch's name is on it. It is a shame that he can't write an unbiased article about the Bay like Dwayne Bremer does about Waveland. I don't care about or want Welch's opinion. I want facts. Nothing else! If he would write the truth, then people wouldn't be saying such uninformed negative things about the Bay. Waveland would see that the Bay is - hands down - leaps and bounds ahead of them. See what happens when you plan ahead?

Welch try writing your articles BEFORE you talk with Joey or Joey's boy (you know who I am talking about - that heavyset guy that drives the black truck). Take a less from Bremer. Journalists are not supposed to be biased.

Geee weez, KUDOS, you must live in B.S.L. not Waveland. We know why you all want B.S.L. to take Waveland over. The onlt thing you all have on WAVELAND IS A CASINO. BUT believe me WAVELAND is GOING TO PULL OUT OF THIS SITUATION. IT MIGHT TAKE A LITTLE TIME BUT MARK MY WORDS. THANK YA!!!!!

Well tiquana, who can argue with logic like that! Best of luck there to ya. If more people in waveland had youre insight and attitude, well..who knows what could happen - I'm sure it would be, uh, well...I'm not sure how I would put that, so I won't. Maybe you should talk to some of our city workers who are getting thrown out of their homes because they cant make their rent - unlike you, time is something THEY don't have.

And to Kudos, yes, it's too bad JR cant bring himself to just report facts instead of his "boys" opinion. Dewayne does a fine job. Too bad he cant cover BSL also.

First of all, I live in Waveland. Secondly, I am not somebody who is one dimentional. I pay attention to EVERYTHING that goes on around me. And, mark MY words, Bay St. Louis has us beat in every department - hands down.

The only reason people like you have no interest in consolidation is because you have no clue just what it can do FOR us. It is simply uninformed, selfish, and childish to stomp your foot and say "no way". Freaking grow up and do a little reading and research before you take a stand on something. See, that is what professional people do, and those who are educated.

I'll try to give you analogy you and the administration can understand. Say you are taking a test and have to make a perfect score to pass the class. Your future depends on it. There is only one question on the test. The day before the test your teacher tells you what the question will be. What do you do? Do you just go take the test and write down what you think the answer is and what you heard other people say, giving the answer you think they want? Or, do you go home, take out the book, read and learn what the exact answer is, so when you take the test you get it exactly right? Remember, your future depends on it.

The reason the administration doesn't even want to consider consolidation is partially due to the same reason, but their's is a little more complicated. They also have an ego to overcome - they don't want to give up "power". You and our administration are conspiracy theorists. Who was in the grassy knoll?

Waveland needs to get its head out of its hinny and realize that without Bay St. Louis, Waveland is going down. BSL financially supports Waveland. Remember it is their tax dollars that keep us afloat! So, my message is simple, do what is right and best for the City, its resident, and its future. I know the "powers that be" have a huge disability in this realm - their egos.

Here is another analogy for you. They (our administration) are like Lott's wife. He told her not to look back. So, when she looked back she was turned into a pillar of salt. That is what they are -a pillar of salt. They looked back!

Waveland as a city will never financially recover. A lot of the blame to Waveland Police department.
how can you blame a police dept for the citys debt? thats absurd! Not allof the officers there were bad and regardless of your personal opinion most of them do have familys to support no one deserves to to just be let go with no warning and then have peoploe blame them for problems that are beyond them

Who should be blamed and why this happened is something for the lawyers and state auditors to figure out and deal with. In the meantime, everyone can point fingers and go back and forth about who is right or wrong. Bottom line is that waveland is drowning in debt with no quick way out. In turn, the taxpayers are going to be the ones to suffer no matter who you are or what your opinion is. Wake up and concentrate on THAT, and play the blame game later.

WLOX reports dire situation in bay st. louis. There are parking stripes on Court Street that are too wide. Traffic could be hindered, especially if the long lines of traffic continue on that heavily traveled road. The traffic is often at it's peak when the bi-weekly edition of the Sea Coast Echo comes out and people rush to the Echo to pick up thier copy in order to keep up with the latest intriguing articles written by the Echo's journalisim award winning staff. If J.R. Welch has more than one article in the paper, there's a stampede to the newstands and Court Street is nearly impassable - even without the new wide parking stripes. And when you think it can't get any worse, the 100+ employees keep their jobs but with NO raise! I guess what I've read here is true...the bay is in a bad situation.

happy hour yeah good thing to go to, cause there are no cops to stop you. Now that was a dumb statement I know. Look at whats is going on and i think we as a city need to make a decision for our city adminstration. First we can not depend on our one police officer protecting us, is is not his fault but really how much can one do. Second fire ratings ????????? that should prove intresting next year. Third how long is the county going to cut our grass, provide police protection, not after the first of the new budget year, cant blame them they have to take care of the county. Yes I know we pay county taxes too. The bay would consider their police department take over our safety matters. But just until our adminstraion can get us back on our feet, and continue to function. Not that i like that idea but have you seem how many people are putting guns n their cars, or pockets, we are concerned about our famlies safety. Who is working on our roads to fix them, who is watching over our money now, why do we have a fire chief and asst fire chief for one firefighter?????????? I cant answer these and sure cant get any of our city officials to answer, because they dont have any idea. Well we will see what happens I a only hope we get back to being Waveland again and not a city on welfare.

taryn, you need to attend the city meeting and ask those questions about the fire chief and assisstant chief. i attend the meetings and I have never heard anyone ask that question. when you go you can sign up to speak and then you can ask your mayor and alderman these question. Red Dog watch out it might be that one cop WHO will catch you leaving the knock knock and give you a dui, then you will be cussing that one cop, and be careful if you are from pearlington, the hwy. patrol might get you too. further more you should have a dessignated driver.

Did anyone see City Workers reading water meters lately? Water billa are up and everyone that I have talked to the Total is the same? Can the City just guess how much water households used and send the bill out? I understand the city needs money and that is a quick and easy way to get some extra funds, but it it legal?

So the crime has started. This is why so many tell me they are now armed. Everyone knows that one person on patrol cannot protect a city. Our tax dollars at work.

My water bill was $80..... I was told that they brought back someone to read the meters. Hopefully it wasn't someone who was "volunteering".
This $80 bill was before the new increase. My neighbor had the same bill.... how can that be?

Most water bills are up because Waveland decided to read the meters after a year of billing citizens for the same previous reading, the old reading was from over a year ago and then they enter the new reading and quess what sky high water bills. Someone must pay for the city employees and family members that have not paid utility bill in years. And yes that was an audit finding. Along with some other interisting illegal things. Just ask to read the audit findings.
