I wanted to comment on the recent attempt to ban prayer at football games in the Chattanooga area, at Soddy Daisy High School. It seems that this issue of student lead prayer, and student lead group prayer at public events, has come up after the fairly recent political fight over students posting signs that they made which contained their personal religious beliefs on them were found hung on the school grounds.
Each time these issue arose the liberals in the media told wrong information about what our current laws state about doing such. The current findings by the Supreme Court, tried by The American Center For Law And Justice and the Liberty Counsel, were that “there is no freedom from religion,” upholding the full legal right of student lead prayer and student group lead prayer while on government lands such as school property. It was even named as “prayer at football games and school functions,” in the court hearings were the Christians student's rights upheld under student group lead prayer.
The Supreme Court's decision was based on the fact that our founding fathers opened and closed every session making our laws with prayer to God, and they were on government lands and on the government payroll as they did so. Our founding fathers quoted over 15,000 Bible scriptures while they were on government lands and while they were on the government payroll as well. This caused them to draw the conclusion that the founding fathers intent was NOT a 'freedom from religion,' but rather a freedom of religion where everyone speaks openly and freely about their beliefs as our founding fathers did, while on government lands or otherwise. A freedom of religion comes without censorship, and yes they expected others to act in tolerance toward those that they found opposing their own beliefs. Christian students are allowed to speak openly about their beliefs, and practice their faith, even while on government lands, only they are not being met with tolerance! Those that are attacking them out of hatred toward their faith must remember that if we take away their rights today they will take away others rights tomorrow, and that one is not a Libertarian until they support the legal rights of those that they despise.
