Officer, wounded in standoff, named Deputy Sheriff of the Year

A deputy who was shot and seriously wounded in a standoff last year has been honored as the Georgia Sheriffs' Association's Deputy Sheriff of the Year.

I'm a bit worried that it seems he was voted DS of the Year as a result of getting wounded. I would be more impressed if he had counceled school kids in saying no to drugs, or to halt the carrying of weapons that had some real effect. I'm not saying that he has suffered in the course of doing his job, but an award..
