I knew these guys. The apartment is used as some sort of home for mentally disabled people. They do have a person that lives there that helps take care of them. I think at present there are only 3 people with disabilities living there along with the caretaker. The young man is also mentally challenged. Please do not be verbally mean about the situation. The fact remains that 2 lives were lost. Not just the murder victim but the person in jail as well. My prayers go out to all involved.

If there was a caretaker at the residence during the time of the altercation, where was he/she? They are responsible for trying to control any situation that may become violent. Apparently he/she was not doing their job effeciently, unless of course it was one of the situations that occurred in Texas where the "caretakers" were pitting the residents against one another for their entertainment. And while I agree with you that 2 lives were lost, even mentally challenged people have the ability to understand right from wrong. IF he is mentally challenged and depending on the type of diability, he should be placed in a facility that is properly equipped to handle his disabilities.

I don't live there so I don't know where the caretaker was but I have seen him interact with the guys on many occassions and I never noticed anything out of the ordinary about his relationship with them. He never seemed mean or impatient with them. There is no doubt that these men are mentally challenged. I believe that they are all autistic. I see them on a daily basis and they were all always very sweet and polite when they spoke to me. I think that the term one caretaker used to refer to them was "functioning austistic" meaning that they could feed, clothe, and groom themselves but I'm not sure how much more they were capable of. There is NO DOUBT that they are disabled. I just wanted to clear the air in that fact.

You are an exapmle of the closed-minded people that are all too present in our society. A person's illness does not make them trash. Some may say that ignorance is an illness. I guess that would make you trash. I hope that he gets some help that is needed. He can get professional help for his illness. Stupid people are too stupid to even know that they need help. Can you be helped?

He doesn't do drugs. This is a child that is mentally handicapped and was adopted at 13 years old by a very good family. No details about what happened are listed. He has the mental ability of an 8 year old.God bless both families. This is a tragedy. WHere was the supervision?

Michael was a great guy! I can't even imagine how this happened or why he was no longer living with his family. When I knew him,he had a great worker and was well cared for by his family! Michael was very sweet, caring and would do anything for you! He loved with his whole heart, and was very happy and full of energy! He interacted great with all the other clients, and was a big help to the lower functioning clients! Michael will be greatly missed!! We all love you very much Michael!

He was charged with first degree murder, which means premeditated.Did this persons disability prevent him from knowing right from wrong??It is a terrible tragedy for both families but a murder nonetheless. You cant sugarcoat it or blame it on a disability. That is an insult to anyone with a mental disability.

Maybe the fact he killed another human being was the posters reason for posting the "trash" label on the guy charged with first degree MURDER..

The 8-year olds I know would not murder someone so having the ability of an 8-year-old is not an excuse for killing someone.

i would say that he didn't have the mental capacity to understand the full scope of his actions at the time. i think the courts will agree. the poster that said the victim was his best friend's brother stated the victim was shot. in this case whoever gave or sold the gun to a menally retarded individual should be charged to the fullest extent allowed by law. don't get me wrong, i am a staunch defender of the 2nd ammendment, which our forefathers so wisely included in the bill of rights as an armed populace is the best deterrent to an authoritative govt.
