Mario Gallegos Wants Terry Grier to Leave HISD
Texas State Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. has gone on the attack against Houston ISD Superintendent Terry Grier and his reform efforts, sending out letters to the school board and state legislators, in which he says his office has been investigating Grier's claims of prior accomplishments and found them not to be true.

Unlike EVASS, AYP is a pretty good measure of how a school and district performs. It takes into account drop out/graduation rate, standardized tests passing rates, and student attendance. Grier was Sperintendent of Guilford County, which is the only district he has spent more than one full year in and in which his strategies could take full effect. When he left, Only 30 percent of campuses met AYP, the lowest ever for that district. Of course, he tries to say he was not there for that full year (2008 - the year he left), but AYP is based on the previous year's scores, so those are fully his.
