Why in the heck is a kindergarten student switching buses or even riding a bus with high schoolers. This is what is wrong with our kids and schools today to much to soon.

I agree with mother of 2. My nephews bus comes by his house at 6:15 and he's supposed to be on the bus for almost 2 hours. Ridiculous! His parents take him to a friends house where he can catch it at 7:30. Don't understand why they couldn't split his bus route up so he wouldn't be on a bus so long!

I have never understood why the school system in Guilford County has had to start creating transfer stations for students. It is past time that the children attend schools in their own community and spend less time on A bus. How much fuel is wasted transfering students anyway?

I agree that 5 year olds shouldn't have to switch buses. But if they have to - identification tags should be made ahead of time and the parent should put it on the student before he gets on the first bus.

The simple answer to all your questions about transferring and routes: money.

We need to go back to neighborhood schools and the county might actually save some money!

Money is not necessarily the answer in mu opinion. There have always been lots of kids but transfering wasn't done, I don't think. The problem is with the leadership at the schools I feel. Let's see if the new suoerintendant gets to the botom of this problem and how fast.

I have a 6 yr and 7yr old that switch busses bc they go to Mag school but I still dont get how the county can save money doing this. I have to sit in my car and wait for the bus with them every morning because the bus will not drive 200 extra feet and pick them up in front of the house. It only picks up 3 kids two of them mine.

No they cant because its all about diversity even though the county is 50% African American and ask which group brings the school test scores down. Thats why they bus them....spreading the problem out instead of solving it.

I can only imagine how scared this little boy and his parents must have been. Put yourself into the little boys place being 5 years old, in an unfamiliar place and not knowing what to do. The parents must have terrified (if they were even informed). This was a mistake that could have been avoided.

Put a scan-able chip in the kids so they can be tracked and this won't happen again. Oh, thats going to happen anyway with the Soetoro-care.

I had just dropped off my child to school yesterday morning and I heard them over the intercom from outside The Academy at Lincoln next door to Dudley High School asking for all staff to see if they had an Evan or Ethan (not sure of last name) in their class that is not on their roster, and if he was to bring him to the office at once. They sounded somewhat frantic and I was very concerned to hear this as if they are losing students?? I refuse to let my child ride a bus to/from school, especially with transfers...it's not worth the risk to me.

Another classic example of the chaos that was the start of the school year in Guilford County! I feel for the child and parents. I would be beside myself in anger. Oh wait, I'm already there! How about the way GCS segregates the children in middle school? Black kids at the end of the halls, White kids at the front. Teachers dont report abuse until the parents show up. Teachers teach. Staff - handle the kids that misbehave and disrupt class! There is a LOT wrong w/leadership in GCS. I've reached out several times and get generic responses like "We hope these things improve this year and hope to have a great school year." That to me says "I'm not addressing the issues and sending you BS just to send a reply." Please wake up GCS leaders! You can do MUCH BETTER FOR OUR CHILDREN! TAKE ACTION!

And PS. Did you know students can walk out of a classroom (after fighting w/a teacher for example) and roam the campus? Its then up to the teacher to call the office and have other staff locate the child, as they are not to leave their classroom unattended. The kids can roam the campus unattended and several times last year, kids arent found until boarding buses to head home. Parents made aware of this? Nope. Another big problem GCS. Congratulations.

This isn't just an issue in Guilford County, its everywhere. They claim our education system can't afford the buses or fuel for transportation without otherwise doubling up the routes or switching buses. I say we check out our so called "EDUCATION LOTTERY" to see where our money is going. I too have delt with the one-way hour and half bus rides of an elementary school child that lives 5 minutes from her school! Now its walk a quarter of a mile and wait in the dark at 6:30am out of sight of our home, because the bus can't turn off the main road. I DON'T THINK SOOOO!!!! I'm still trying to figure out why we pay all these tax dollars for our children to be thrown wherever!!!

Because so much money is being wasted on superfluous positions in the central offices or the administrative offices of schools. Too much money is being wasted on unnecessary things instead of on buying enough school buses to ensure that no students have to switch buses or share buses. And thanks to the budget cuts our incompetent governor and her cronies put into place, nothing will be changing soon. There is no excuse for this little boy's or any other child's being lost at school. I am so glad he is safe and okay.

I agree completely! Neighborhood schools have always had the "ownership" that made great schools. But you and I are not the majority, and the politically correct liberals won't admit the truth.

If everyone went to the schools in their own neighborhoods this wouldn't be a problem.
