A recent encounter has left me wondering what the adoption sucess rate is for this particular animal shelter. Would like to hear from persons who've had a good experience adopting from the tri-county animal shelter.

I don't understand what you mean by success rate. I think that depends a lot on how you yourself react to and/or treat the animal you adopt, and chances are if you can manage to handle and take an animal out of the shelter then it can't be horrible. I know someone who adopted two dogs from there and they are really good, sweet, and playful and tolerant of kids. They do kill them after 14 days I think it is. So if you are going to adopt it's kind of a life or death matter for the animals.

I adopted a wonderful dog from there! And I would of course recommend that everyone check your pounds when in search of a new pet. That particular pound has WAY more animals than people to adopt them, so any animal you do adopt from there, you have saved from certain death. I do not believe in killing these beautiful creatures, but there just isn't enough room for them all. It's such a waste of life.

Always look at petfinder.com
There are many animal shelters in our area, in desperate need of good homes.

These dogs in shelters are regular dogs that have been tossed aside, they are very loving dogs. Often they have been abused or neglected, every animal deserves a loving warm home.

Everytime I make the attempt to look at or adopt a hound of any kind, they already have someones name on it. I dont think one certain person should be able to adopt every beagle that comes through the place. I wonder what it takes to get on the list

finally someone with the same experience as myself, I have made multiple trips in earnest only to be told no that one is "on hold". my feelings is I am here willing to take this dog home with me why should i be told no we're holding for someone. I am told by the woman at the pound that people have 24 hrs to respond if not they move down the list. I think this is plain BS. Right now I would love to adopt a large breed puppy, but hate to have to feel like I am begging to get to take one home. Are they brokering these dogs to puppy mills or labs? It's a sad situation if so.

You need to BYPASS the woman who is there and speak directly with the dog warden Doug Jordan, he is an honest man and cares about those pitiful animals.

I know it sounds awful but i know the people who own the Tri County Animal Shelter and while she is a good christian woman, he does not seem the sort. I know they euthanize dogs earlier if they have no hope of finding them a home. I took a stray there one day and when i called 2 days later he was not there but when asked if he had been given a home, they could not find any information of the sort so i assume he was put to sleep. The boyd county animal shelter doesnt euthanize dogs unless mean or corrupt or sickly, i strongly believe in their system of work and i would recommend them to any future pet owner more than any other vet in this general area.

The man and woman at the shelter seemed really rude it seemed like I was bothering them for just being there. They followed me around as i looked at dogs and I wasnt allowed to pet any they we would have a lawsuit if one bit you. Hmm not sure how you are supposed to adopt one if you cant even pet one. Maybe they offer home delivery lol that way there wont be a lawsuit on them if it bites you at your house. I thought they could do a lot better at cleaning the place up instead of sitting there all day. It smells horrid before you even walk into the building.

Every animal shelter is a kill shelter there no such thing as a no kill shelter. Those that claim they are lie, they usually have two places. They have a place where they have the good dogs they know they can get rid of and say they don't kill animals then they have another place where they get rid of the ones they can't.

the same people that run the shelter are responsible for animal control out in the county. I along with MANY of my neighbors have called multiple times about the dogs in our neighborhood dragging out trash and worst of all dead animals into my yard mostly but into everyones yard. The dog that is the main culprit is never taken. His owners have been told to keep him in the house or tie him up twenty times and as soon as the dog catcher leaves, they let him right back out!! I'm sick of it! He needs to do his job as Animal control officer and control something and yes the woman at the shelter is very rude on the phone and in person. She acts like we have no buisness calling her and wasting her time with such matters like silly dogs that weigh 150 lbs. and chase my children growling at them trying to bite them, but when you go to the shelter she is too busy talking on the phone to help you. AND the money you pay is supposed to be for the shots that the animals are given, but the two kittens I adopted a few years ago hadn't been given any shots yet and I still had to pay full price. Funny too, I didn't fill out any paperwork!

yea the dogs do have to be put down pretty quick thats because they do 3 countys and theres not alot of room in the shelter for that many dogs so there is no other way realy if you feel so sorry for them adopt them all i know i got a puppy from there and they were realy nice to me and my family i got one for my kids if they were left loose the dogs would run these countys not us think about it i think they do a good job for just two people there anyway

We tried to take a healthy 6 month old dog to this shelter. Had tried to find him a home without success. Sign in the window of the shelter said, Not accepting any animals, full. What other options do people have when an animal cannot be kept.
