Don't the police do random drug testing? Mitch it cost less to drug test them, and you would catch more officers who are using drugs this way. Though, huffing gas is a new one that you cant test for. Did not anyone notice the officers mary jane smell when he came into the office. Maybe because that drug dog was outdoors no-one even noticed the smell. LOL

its a shame that the sheriff's will let mike garrigan drive a county vehicle using county gas to drive to an out of town baseball game while he is not on duty. why dont they arrest him, is this not the same thing?

No its not personal. I just dont understand why its alright for one deputy to get by with something, and the other deputy gets prosecuted. Sounds to me there is something fishy going on !!

Drug test? Are you kidding?N.Georgia law enforcement is all about covering each other. My daughter was married to one. He would beat her, hold a gun to her head and when she called 911 his brothers in blue threatened her.I tell everyone I know "don't let your daughter marry a cop in Ga."

As with some public safety officials who are subject to what is called "on-call" twentyfour hours a day, seven days a week, they are given a little leeway in order to have a personal life (A personal life is critical in assuring quality public safety personnel). However, if such officials are called to return to duty during a public safety incident, he/she must immediately return to duty. If these officials are in a personal car and with family at say a concert, is it fair to require the family member to suffer and have to return as well? What about eating a meal at a restaurant? Should the family member have to leave the meal? Common sense dictates that the official take a separate car to prevent such occurances. Now the question is...do you as a taxpayer want a critical official to waste time going back home to pick up his government car and equipment before going to the emergency or do you want him to respond directly to the emergency? As taxpayers we have to decide what we want most. Our elected officials have to make policy based on what we want. The situation can easily be abused and requires strict policy and control. The other "incident" (stealing gas and pot) was not even remotely similar.

any out of town driving should be done on a personal vehicle. around town driving is understandable when they are on call.
but its a shame that the poor boy got busted on stealing gas and having some weed. first of all, it was dumb, yes... but how much gas was it? Who hasn't raided the office supply closet at work for some supplies for the house? I didn't hear all the details, so i dont know if it was a tanker truckload or what. on the weed issue... that sh&t should be legal anyway! as long as he was smoking off the job, having a beer after work is just as bad and no one gets in trouble for that. Its sad the only cool sounding cop i have heard about in ages is going up the river.

Mike Garigan is on call 24 hours a day! He works 12-15 hours a day and never has the ability to forget work! He is the most dedicated employee the sheriff's office has and for you to make that ignorant comment just goes to show how little you do know! If he is going to be called in every night for something, then he is entitled to a vehicle.
