This is just the tip of the iceberg about the big money folks screwing the taxpayer. Support Senator Chapman if you don't want to see a gate keeping off Jekyll Island, like Sea Island, at some point in the future.

http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/storie...

The project’s inclusion came soon after the state’s Jekyll Island Authority reached a deal with the Reynolds’ Linger Longer Development Co. to redevelop the state-owned barrier island. That deal grants Linger Longer rights to develop the island and provide the state a portion of its profits. The terms of the contract are more generous than those granted to other developers.

“The Reynolds family is well-connected,” said Carey Williams, longtime editor of The Herald-Journal newspaper in Greensboro. He supports the road widening.“If they can pull the Jekyll Island deal, what the hell is a 7-mile road project to them?”

Senator Chapman would have Jekyll remain as it is.
A run down, mis managed State Park that doesn't provide anything for the citizens of Georgia. Take a drive down there right now and see if you can find a clean hotel room for less than $120 per night - you can't. You can't buy a hamburger for less than $8 and can't get anything to eat after 10PM unless you want a candy bar. Where do all these people think investment comes from and have they ever made an investment themselves? No one in their right mind would invest in resort property right now. Especially resort property managed by a bunch of political appointees. A management formula that has resulted in the total destruction of Jekyll Island as an affordable vacation spot for the citizens of Georgia at least once already. The only people on Chapmans side in this issue are the residents of Jekyll who enjoy very very low cost leases on the land that their homes occupy. I welcome the development of Jekyll, the creation of jobs in our community and the revenue that will be produced for our local merchants and our government. Jekyll has been a millstone around the necks of the State of Georgia and Glynn County. I look forward to the Reynolds family improving this property so that the citizens of Georgia have the option of visiting what should be the crown jewel of the Golden Isles.

Well, it appears the PR machine of the Reynolds company is johnny on the spot.

The Linger Longer contract is a disgrace and a very poor deal for the citizens of Georgia.

This is bull shit. It's not Chapman's fault Jekyll is a mess. It is the JIA's .

Rewarding the Governors political donors with free beach front land is not going to fix Jekyll. Crown Jewell my ass. Look at Liberty Harbor fiasco. People dont come to a Island because of condo's or hotels. If that was the case Sea Island would not be broke.

Then why isn't Chapman getting any support fro anyone. I see three people her who agree with him and 6 million of the silent majority who don't think this is a fight worth entering. If you don't think people come to the shore for condo's or hotels you are right but they won't come unless they have a clean place to stay. Right now you can camp (limited spaces) or stay in an expensive hotel room (limited spaces). We need a place where Georgia can vacation at a reasonable price. Does that involve hotel rooms and condos - you bet it does!

Make that 4 people. It is not Chapaman fault Jekyll is a mess. His point is with the crappy deal the state is getting while Sonny Perdue's political contributors cash out with beach front property. Chapman I think had about 30,000 signatures backing him up against the proposed give away and rape of the prime beach front property. He is not standing in the way of progress after the JIA has let Jekyll rot, just a scam.

Where is you 6 million signatures?

If you read these comments you can easily see how our nation got in the condition it is in. All you sociology majors can pontificate all you want but you don't have any idea what makes this country work better than any other nation in the world. You can talk about the raw deal the state got, but you won't come out of your pocket with any money to develop anything on Jeykll. You won't do anything because you don't know how, don't have any money, or don't have any guts - probably all three. I vote for just giving Jekyll Island to the Glynn County Housing Authority and letting them build some low income housing on the ocean front. This is something the citizens of Georgia can afford. I know people will come from far and wide to fill the Jekyll Island Convention Center and stay in the low income housing. The fact is that Jekyll is in competition with tons of other places for tourist. I guess if you have never been down here you can't imagine how Jekyll stacks up to places like Myrtle Beach or the Gulf Coast. No one with any real knowledge would plan a convention or trip to Jekyll. The only thing that will make that happen is a building program that provides superior accommodations. That requires money just like a Hundai plant does. So why don't we give Linger Longer tax breaks and sweetheart deals like we did for Hundai and NCR. Well, maybe that is what has done here. How else would you get someone to redevelop a rust bucket resort that is run by a communist commission and subject to oversight by a legislative commission.
Think about it - the only thing this situation has going for it is private development!

The Midnight Rider must have never been to Jeykll. There is already a gate there and has been for years. Midnight is just supporting Champan trying to use Chapmans tactics of bashing the wealthy - wooooo, they are going to steal everything you got! Well, Midnight, think a minute - what do you have that you didn't get from a rich person. Who do you work for "the poor". Face facts dodo, poor people aren't going to develop anything and right now there aren't many companies that have two nickles to rub together. Do you?

Chapman started a company himself and sold it to a Fortune 500 company. He's not hurting financially. I think you have him confused with who he is bashing and in fact don't know squat about him. It's not the wealthy he will bash (and he does his bashing with class), it is the greedy
