Keep God out of this. Your comment didn't make any sense. "Thank God, I was hoping it would keep people like you away!" Well, obviously it didn't keep this person away as he/she lives here.
Think about it

It's the least Gloucester county can do for its citizens. I can't believe you have to pay a toll to drive into Gloucester. I love driving over the bridge into Yorktown. The trees and the roads are so nice. I can't say the same for coming over the bridge into Gloucester. Gloucester won't even keep the road median's cut. You people talk about bringing in businesses and making the place look trashy. I say it already looks trashy. It's not until you get into the Courthouse/Walmart area that you feel like you've reached civilization. One can only shop at Walmart so much. It's tiring having to cross the bridge everytime I want more shopping or restaurants. Having more of these things in our community does not make a place trashy. Williamsburg has loads of shopping and I would never say Williamsburg was trashy. Think of all the jobs these new shops would generate. It took my daughter about 5 weeks and 20 job applications to get a summer job. Bring on Belks. Let's get a Penneys and an Outback and an IHOP. The day we get a Waffle House or a Huddle House is the day Gloucester is officially considered trashy.
You should do a little more research before you blame Gloucester about things beyond their control. The toll was not the idea of Gloucester, but the state. Gloucester has lobbied every year to have it taken down, but without success. As for the grass cutting in the median, well, that is suppose to be done by VDOT and they say they don't have the money. But under the previous Sheriff Stanaway, inmates from the Jail began cutting grass and they do keep the grass up in the median along Business 17.

And the trashy look when you come into the county, well, I can't disagree with that, but that can be blamed on the days BEFORE zoning, when any business could open up anywhere. And, in the early days, GP was the only place you could get anything besides the Courthouse.

As for restaurants, there are plenty of good ones, that aren't the brand names, Goodfellas, Salsa, Olivias, to name a few. You need to check out the local fair before you slam it.

And thank you for serving our country. You guys can't be thanked enough.

What do you mean it looks trashy coming off the bridge into Gloucester. They torn down the porn shop turned tattoo parlor. Sheese what more do you want. To tear down that attractive motel?
