My thoughts go out to the Dunlap family. Sadly, I know too well what you are going through right now. Someone sent us a message when we lost our son in similar circumstances. It says "When love has touched our lives, it remains forever in our hearts". David's love will remain forever in your hearts. I wish you all the very best for the difficult times ahead.

Condonlences to the family.

But as in insider in the loop it hurts to know that one of my friends and many others friend, could still be alive if the third person(no names metioned) would have taken ten seconds to call 911, for that matter if he was a true friend he would have never left at all. He left two of my good friends lying there to die.
O, and they were not drinking!!
Daivd Dentler (thank goodness) is going to be ok, but those reading this should know that this was in way his fault, him and Dunlap (we called him little) were very close. He would never wanted this to happen to his best friend.

You are correct in your statement about alcohol and cars not mixing and about seatbelts. I must say though, that this is not just a kid thing. We have a towing company and we see DUIs all the time. We see more adults doing this than kids. Unfortunantly, when kids do it, it often leads to horrible circumstances. I still want to express condolences to the family and friends. I wish that the other person had not left the scene-but am glad that they came forward.

Kudos? I hope you were being sarcastic and I just didn't get it. The third person ran away like a little sissy. Maybe if he had helped, his friend would be alive today. You also called him a man in your post. A man...NOT. Wimp...yes

In regards to "A Friend" have you ever been a horrible accident to say rather you would KNOW what to do or who to call at that very moment. So how can you say he JUST LEFT SOMEONE FOR DEAD, where you there at the Scene to determine anything at all. NO YOU were not, so don't assume you know the whole story!

Actually, in this case I was not being sarcastic. The 'kid' got scared, panicked and ran away. I agree with you and some others that running was not a wise thing to do, but he DID finally own up to his mistake and this is why I give him Kudos.

We dont know if his friend would have died or not, we will never know. This is what makes the situation even more sad. Shoulda/woulda/coulda.

Dont EVER drink and drive. EVER.

on second thought it was probably a good thing that he ran home so that mommy and daddy could sober him up BEFORE contacting a lawyer. Shoulda/woulda/coulda/whatever ....He's a real piece of work.

Im not sure its against the law to be an intoxicated passenger.

I hope I wouldnt run in a case like this...but I cant say what I'd do at that age, since its been a while since I've been there...and when I was that age I didnt drink.

Never Drink and Drive. NEVER.

Apparently, in Gloucester it is if you are under 18. There was an intoxicated passenger in the back seat of the crash that killed our son (he was a seat-belted front seat passenger). She got a year with a restricted license, a year on probation, 40 hours community service, 10 ASAP meetings, and a fine.

The driver, however, got a $70 fine and a slap on the wrist.

It is kind of hard to see any justice in that particular situation.

My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.

Something every teenager should read and think about.....

I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me
not to drink, Mom,
so I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
that I didn't drink and drive,
though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right.
The party finally ended,
and the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece.
I never knew what was coming, Mom,
something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
the kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
this girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high.
Because he chose to drink and drive,
now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
like a hundred stabbing
knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven,
put ' Mommy's Girl' on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive

My breath is get ting shorter,
Mom I'm getting really scared
These are my final moments,
and I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say,'I love you, Mom!'
So I love you and good-bye..

WOW "WHAT" YOU SOUND AS IF YOU ARE THE investigator in this case, do you know 1st hand that 3rd passenger was even drinking at all. So how dare you say he ran home to his mommy and daddy! You just get home here to state your worthless opinions about someone you don't even know. Are you connected to anyone of these kids at all. You are playing the blame game on the 3rd passenger like he was the one behind the wheel of this car. When all in all something like this should have never happen.

Things like this happen every day, please everyone remember to wear your seatbelt. In regards to the person who stated i didn't know what i was talkin about. I do. The people in the car were not drinkin, the driver was in fact trying to avoid an accident(there was a car coming towards him) he cut the wheel to the left to avoid hiting the on coming car, as a result he lost control, hit a dicth and a collard, than a tree. No, I wasn't at the accident, but i'am a personal friend of all three of the passengers. I do not blame the third person, or anyone for the death of my friend. I just wish that he would have at least called 911. What I posted last nite was a little harsh, I was still speaking out of of shock and hurt. There is no one to blame for this event, it's here for us to learn from, and remind us just how important your friends and family are to you. So the next time you get in car please put on your seatbelt, and remind yourself every day how lucky you are, that your friends and family are happy and healthy- and alive. And never leave somewhere without saying goodbye, because it could be your last chance.
