Wait a minute...I'm confused. Robin Stanaway lost his reelection to Steve Gentry based upon wanting to build a new jail. Gentry has said all along it isn't needed. Now this is reported. What gives? Am afraid as long as we're subjects of the Gang of Four, held hostage each evening in the stau at the Coleman, our fair county will just meander aimlessly.

How about instead of that, let me keep more of the money I earn to take care of MY family!

Yes, the list is being hastily constructed. Hopefully, it's a first draft, not the final.
The idea of putting the 'jail' on the list was that if the jail is 'free' then it is cost effective, but if we have to pay for it locally, then it's not..........

"Curry, in charge of forming the list...."

FORMING a list....come on people, get on the ball. Lists of future projects should have been formed a LONG time ago. The projects that will get funded with stimulus $$ are those that are virtually ready to execute. Gloucester's lack of long-range planning may really shaft us in the end.

New jail???? Gloucester already was pledged money from the state for a new jail and threw the chance away last year. Now the state funding is gone, and they want it again? Gentry was told the impact of refusing the funding last year and pledged that ne new jail was needed. What gives?????

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.....one of the points that sticks in my craw. We have historically had a piss poor long range plan and no multi year budget. We keep talking about it, but it ain't happening......It will be a subject of my moment during citizens comments at the next meeting. Perhaps others could constructively contribute to this cause and help speed it along?

First on the list should be another High School. I can't believe they are getting by with one high school. When my kids were there 15 years ago, it was overcrowded then. What gives Gloucester?? Keep building elementary and middle schools...where do you think the students from all of these schools end up??

We seem to have caught the black syndrome. Always have your hand out for money extracted from taxpayers. America is doomed.

Curry said: "We'd be hard-pressed to beat a free jail."

Free, free, there is nothing about this stimulus that is free. Curry, have you lost your mind?!?!?

If the county/state/feds are going to TAKE my money, then for heavens sake, build a new HIGH school. We can have more than one darn team!

High School, not jail! If you built another high school to serve this community, you just might aleviate the jail problem!

Use you heads!

Am somehow not seeing a new library at Gloucester Point on this list, perhaps it is...The BOS was notified two years ago that the lease on the Point branch library will expire in 2011, and the landlord is not going to renew. There has been some activity to replace apparently, but more action has not been taken apparently due to the "economy". Time is passing and little is being done.

Or give the money to Newport News and they could combine the two. High school and jail all in the same building.

I guess you want to double your taxes to pay for a 40 to 50 million dollar school? Growth has it's price.
