That's right!
I would love to move into a larger house, but my budget won't allow it. The BOE should have to stay within their budget, too.
I can't wait for the next BOE election.

Why was nothing heard about this until the day the BOE agreed to purchase it...sounds like they wanted to keep it quite.

I will remember this the next election; I hope everyone does. We can't afford what we already have...why do we keep spending? The next time I hear anyone say anything joining the party of less government and less spending I think I'll croak!(or at least throw up)

As I've said before in the forums, I believe that there is a significant number of our elected officials that are not Republican at heart, and not interested in less government and less spending. They simply have come to realize that they must call themselves Republicans if they want the best shot at being elected. I believe RINO is the term. It seems to me that our previous Commission Chairman, our current Commission Chairman, and at least half of the Commissioners fall into that category.

What we need to do is not to simply accept a candidate's professed party affiliation at face value, but dig a little deeper into what their beliefs really are and what they hope to achieve. As far as I'm concerned, if they want to achieve anything other than to reduce government and reduce spending, then they shouldn't be elected, no matter what their party affiliation is.

This is rediculous. They say its not in the budget to allow the kids to take drivers ed at the school. So that means we didnt have the money for a fancy building. Kids now will have or should i say parents will have to pay $250 to take it if not they will not be allowed to drive till 17. Pickens county can afford it why cant Gilmer.

People complain about the BOC (and with merit to their complaints many times). Folks, the Board of Education is where most of your property tax money goes. Funny this was not discussed in meeting prior to purchase.

For what they are gonna pay for that place they could have kept Oakland open. Instead now we all get to have our kids going to many different schools. CRAZY

Folks, the truth is that the BOE had being working behind the scene to purchase that "corporate office building " that was owned by the closed Gilmer County Bank several months age but the word got out and enough people called BOE members that they stopped the talk with the FDIC on that property....But lookie here! They keep this under wraps and vote last night to purchase it with no public discussion.Oakland student/parents and the
custodians have been had.

I guess all the people who agreed closing Oakland was best for the budget (or lack of) feel really STUPID now. They must not have been a product of Oakland.

Oakland school needed to be closed down. It had outlived its purpose. That is the only thing I've seen the boards do that made sense. They stuck the middle school way out in the middle of nowhere. Then we had to widen the road to it and not to mention the water and sewer that had to be run to it. Another fool hardy ideal was the tract of land purchased out 382 hwy that very few people knew about. Now this, a building at a time when when every one is having to tighten their belts and try to pay taxes on property they can't sell for the amount appraised. These people can't justify this in any shape, form or fashion what so ever. They are fools and are out of control. It seems a recall of the board is justified as well.

Watch the video on fetchyournews.com

It will make you want to throw up!! Surprised they did not get up and applaud themselves!

Also was/is it not illegal that this was not listed on the meeting agenda releases to public? Just happened to pop up and had to be decided right then. Yeah I have seen a big line waiting to buy that place.

Also, I think McArthur flat out lied! He said he went to talk to Fdic at Gilmer County Bank when It was taken over and Parsons did not call back the FDIC guy cause he said Bank of Ellijay was a better option when it became available! It was over a year before Ellijay went under so explain that? How did Parsons know a year before FDIC?

Can you say Liar, Liar, Liar!

The pre-determined questions that were being asked were ridiculous. It was obvious they were scripted. Thank you fetchyournews.com for covering these meetings

Could that money not have been used to continue/finish the sports facility at the Clear Creek school instead of purchasing a building that was of no use to the students or community? I know that it is SPLOST funding, but there are provisions, if nothing else.

Yes, Splost could be used for capital improvements as well as finishing HS baseball filed that is 90% complete because the excuse used was the were out of Splost funds! Heard that right out of one of BOE members who regularly attends BB games to watch a relative play! Hmmmm sounds fishy, but anything with this Dorsey guy is Poison folks and the board is nothing nut a bunch of wimpy bobble head dolls!

"Authorized Expenditures

If the voters approve the referendum, the SPLOST revenues may be used for the following:

Specific capital improvement projects for educational purposes, and/or
Retire General Obligation Bond debt previously incurred with respect only to capital outlay projects and/or
Issue new General Obligation Bond for specific capital outlay projects to be paid with SPLOST."

The above is copied from the Dept. of Education website when searching SPLOST. Does anyone know where to find the original SPLOSTS, what year, etc... I would like to read them over.
